Job Details
Job Title: Mechanical Designer Department: Mechanical Engineering Reports to: Mechanical Engineering Manager Position Objective:
• Through the practice of servant leadership; enhance people's lives; creating machine concepts to build packaging equipment; safely deliver quality, best value products and services, on time, to internal and external customers.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Create sound machine concepts including layout, timing, and drives
• Problem solving and solution recommendation
• Provide engineering support to customers including field issues, retrofits, size changes, and parts questions
• Support the testing and installation of equipment
• Assist with training of internal and external customers
• Provide support to the Customer Technical Service department
• Recommend and implement up-to-date processes to increase efficiency and reduce costs
• Communicate openly, share knowledge, build positive collaboration between departments and team members
• Support and contribute to department and company metrics
• Be actively engaged in continuous improvement projects and culture
General Responsibilities:
• Adhere to, support and promote the Aagard vision and culture statements
• Demonstrate professional, respectful interaction with other team members
• Accurately and professionally represent Aagard to customers and vendors
• Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics or related field or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
• Knowledge of motion and timing including limits/guidelines
• Understanding and ability to create machine timing charts
• Mechanical, controls, and electrical system knowledge
• Experience with multi drive automation projects (servo based)
• Ability to lead projects
• 2D and 3D CAD experience
• Ability to develop new designs or improve existing designs for simplification and better value
• Knowledge of material types and properties and purchased parts used in automated equipment
• Mechanical, controls, and electrical system knowledge
• Understanding of parts fabrication, standard manufacturing tolerances, and tolerance stack-up
• Understanding of what drives costs including best value tolerances
• Relevant math skills such as timing, sprocket ratios, linkages, and air/vacuum
• Experience with Microsoft Office products
• Ability to visualize concepts
• Ability to accept assignment broad in nature
• Ability to work under minimal supervision
• Strong time management and organizational skills
• Ability to communicate with a variety of people both verbally and in writing, including presentation skills
• Self-starter, creative and problem solver
• Ability to apply statistical tools to get to the root cause
• Passion for excellence
• Value and build a culture of measurement
• Ability to work independently and execute a plan
• Ability to travel up to 30% of the time
Preferred Experience/Skills:
• Experience in the following areas will be helpful to this position: project management, service/field work, sheet metal fabrication, wash-down applications, identifying and evaluating new products with vendors, testing and debug, machine controls, cartoning, sleeving, case packing, custom automation
• Knowledge of packaging materials
