DWU is located in Mitchell, South Dakota, a town of 14,000, nestled in the heart of one of the country’s finest outdoor recreation areas.  Mitchell is the sixth largest city in South Dakota and home to the world’s only Corn Palace. The University is within an hour’s drive of Sioux Falls, one of the Upper Midwest’s larger statistical metropolitan areas.  It is within a six-hour drive of several major metropolitan areas (Omaha, NB; Minneapolis, MN; Kansas City, MO).

Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, South Dakota invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Education at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.  The individual hired for this position will serve as a member of the university’s college of leadership and public service.  The person is expected to teach courses primarily in the university’s undergraduate education program.  The candidate will be expected to teach some of the following courses: educational psychology; health education; American Indian education; adolescent learner’s needs; elementary math, science, and social studies methods; and evidence-based reading.  Depending on the individual’s aptitudes and abilities, he or she might also be asked to contribute to the coordination of the placement of students in practicum and student teaching experiences. The university’s undergraduate education program is among the university’s most highly enrolled programs. Start date is mid August 2019.  Rank and salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold a terminal degree in education (or be master’s prepared with significant relevant experience and working toward—or willing to work toward--a terminal degree).   
  • Have demonstrable, successful experience as a teacher at the college level (or demonstrable promise thereof).
  • Have demonstrable, appreciable, successful experience as a classroom teacher at either the primary or the secondary level.    
  • Be firmly committed to high quality teaching and to active, experiential, project-based learning and research in traditional learning environments at the undergraduate level.
  • Be committed to mentoring students, including serving as an academic advisor.
