Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification: $60,000+/Annual, Full-Time, Benefited, Exempt
Benefits: Includes single or family health care coverage (premiums paid for by the university), basic life insurance, EAP, retirement plan, tuition waiver, annual and sick leave.  Optional benefits available: supplemental life, dental, vision, flexible spending account, supplemental retirement plans. Upon successful completion of the initial probation period, an employee may be eligible for a salary adjustment up to 5%.
Work Schedule:  Typically Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-4:30 pm, but may include some evening and/or weekend work

This entry-level position is located at the Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC), an international leader in energy and environmental research and development. The EERC is looking for an engineer or scientist with strong mechanical skills, who also has an active interest in fossil or renewable energy production technologies and who is interested in pursuing an exciting, fast-paced research position. This individual would work for a project manager or principal investigator and contribute to the success of projects that could include process engineering and design as related to conversion of coal or biomass to fuels, chemicals, and energy and pre/postcombustion carbon capture. Specific assignments may include designing processes and creating engineering drawings and processing modeling/simulations for equipment and processes related to energy conversion.
 
The successful candidate would support these development efforts by performing the following essential functions:

  • Contributing to the design, modeling, and hands-on fabrication of experimental equipment and overseeing or operating that equipment
  • Assisting in the preparation of research proposals.
  • Interpreting data.
  • Writing reports and papers.
  • Presenting project results to clients.
  • Presenting papers at national and international conferences.
  • This position will occasionally perform work in the field for up to several weeks at a time.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in mechanical engineering, petroleum engineering or chemical engineering.
  • Experience with pilot-scale pollution control equipment.
  • Cover letter and resume.
  • Not required by the EERC, however, some clients will require drug screenings.
  • Successful completion of Criminal History Background Check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Innovative insight or skill in the design and fabrication of experimental process systems.
  • Academic or work-related experience in:
    Coal or biomass gasification/combustion technology development.
    Design or construction of high-temperature or pressurized processing equipment.
    Pre- and postcombustion carbon capture.
    Understanding of economic evaluations of chemical processes.
