Job Details

The Patient Access Representative ensures hospital and clinic patients are registered according to procedure; obtains patient consents; generates patient accounts; collects payments and maintains and balances cash drawer; completes insurance verification; is cross trained into other Patient Access areas and has a general knowledge of duties in those areas; completes Medicare Secondary Payor (MSP) questions; plans, coordinates and communicates operating information to physicians; schedules, coordinates and cancel appointments, and assists in the screening of phone calls from residency program applicants.

Essential Job Functions:
  1. Ensures hospital and clinic patients are registered according to standard operating procedure, i.e., collects patient/guarantor address, date of birth, insurance information, etc.
  2. Obtains patient consents and appropriately documents signature on file.
  3. Generates patient accounts based on referral or correspondence from Branch Clinic or area provider.
  4. Collects payments and maintains and balances cash drawer according to standard operating procedure or directs patient to appropriate area regarding payments for services.
  5. Completes insurance verification by looking up current insurance and co-pay information using third party eligibility screens or systems in computer.
  6. Is cross trained into other Patient Access areas as needed and has a general knowledge of Patient Access Representative duties in those areas.
  7. Completes Medicare Secondary Payor (MSP) questions in compliance with Medicare regulations, and works all the work lists/work queues daily according to standard operating procedure.
  8. Plans, coordinates and communicates operating information to physicians (residents) during tenure, as needed.
  9. Schedules, coordinates and cancels appointments for patients according to standard operating procedure.
  10. Orders and routes charts for physician offices upon request according to standard operating procedure, i.e., chart numbers, date of birth or address.
  11. Assists Medical Records in locating charts according to standard operating procedure.
12. Sorts charts, mail and papers and distributes to proper personnel

Required:
• High school diploma or the equivalent.
• Demonstrates proficient computer skills with a high degree of accuracy for a variety of computer-related tasks.

Preferred:
• Knowledge in medical terminology.
• Past experience in a clerical health care setting.
• Experience in Windows based applications.
