JOB SUMMARY

Performs all required ultrasound and clinical evaluations at a technical level. Maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field of vascular disease and new producers, as they evolve. Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic vascular laboratory examinations. Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify and record appropriate anatomical pathological, and diagnostic images. Responsible for the safety, mental, and physical comfort of the patient while in the sonographer's care. Assists with the maintenance of laboratory accreditation via Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL), American College of Radiology (ACR), and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with all customers (i.e. patients, co-workers, physicians, peers, etc.). Possesses a thorough knowledge and understanding of cardiac and/or vascular anatomy, physiology, and hemodynamic principles. Knows two-dimensional color flow and doppler wave form analysis. Understands age-related protocols for the various testing. Possesses excellent communication skills to work with patients and families, physicians, and other healthcare workers. This position may have access to medications for purposes of distribution to licensed personnel. May perform ultrasound procedures for our mobile outreach program as well as perform vascular screenings at various locations. This may include driving Sanford vehicles, flying by aircraft, and occasionally an overnight stay at a hotel.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Follows pre-established patient safety guidelines.;Supervise or train students or other medical sonographers.;Prepare patient for exam by explaining procedure, transferring patient to ultrasound table, scrubbing skin and applying gel, and positioning patient properly.;Provide sonogram and oral or written summary of technical findings to physician for use in medical diagnosis.;Clean, check, and maintain sonographic equipment, submitting maintenance requests or performing minor repairs as necessary.;Select appropriate equipment settings and adjust patient positions to obtain the best sites and angles.;Observe and care for patients throughout examinations to ensure their safety and comfort.;Operate ultrasound equipment to produce and record images of the motion, shape, and composition of blood, organs, tissues, or bodily masses, such as fluid accumulations.;Observe screen during scan to ensure that image produced is satisfactory for diagnostic purposes, making adjustments to equipment as required.;

QUALIFICATIONS

Associate degree in Cardiovascular Technology or two years equivalent experience is required.
Registration or eligible to be registered with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) with Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) certification or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) with Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) certification. Obtain RVT or RVS within 24 months into position. Leadership may require this be obtained in less than 24 months depending on needs of the department. Department needs may shorten this time frame if applicable. When applicable, maintenance of a valid driver’s license and good driving record is required. Employees are held to the Sanford category driver's license policy and medical guidelines when applicable for job duties. If working in North Dakota and performing medical imaging or radiation therapy procedures, licensure through the North Dakota Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (NDMIRT) Board is required. Basic Life Support (BLS) required within six weeks of employment and re-certification as necessary is required.
