Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification:  $75,000+ per year, 11 month position (off December 15 through January 14), Exempt, Full-Time, Benefitted

Standard Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm

The Faculty Development Specialist & Academic Coach will advance innovative teaching, informed by the scholarship of teaching and learning and best practices in curriculum design and delivery (including online delivery); support University-wide educational effectiveness through collaborating to further a faculty development framework which facilitates excellent student success outcomes tied to UND’s strategic plan; and, provide direct faculty development opportunities particularly in the online environment.  The primary focus will be on coaching faculty members, adjunct faculty, and GTA’s to improve the teaching and learning experience at UND.  Duties include:

  • Provide Faculty Development through various coaching methods to UND Faculty Members, Adjunct Faculty Members, and GTA’s to Improve Student Success
  • Coach faculty, adjunct faculty and GTA’s in online teaching methods that generate measurable data useful in assessing impact on student learning and faculty teaching effectiveness. 
  • Collaborate within TTaDA’s Faculty and Staff Development unit to improve instructional outcomes with faculty members, focusing on making faculty development available through multiple delivery formats, including online (synchronous and asynchronous) and hybrid delivery
  • Consult with individual faculty and departments to measurably improve teaching and student learning outcomes – focusing on faculty members who teach in online and distance courses and programs
  • Design, develop and facilitate faculty development workshops/programs/cohort groups (using multiple delivery methods) as curricular initiatives occur on campus and online using innovative, evidence-based pedagogical strategies
  • Consult with faculty members concerning course design, instructional activities, assessment, and pedagogical approaches; work collaboratively with TTaDA instructional designers throughout this process
  • Collaborate within TTaDA’s Faculty and Staff Development unit to conduct student feedback (SGID) and provide formative feedback on instructional and/or pedagogical issues identified through the SGID process; administer the SGID process for faculty teaching in online and hybrid course formats
  • Develop interactive and engaging online resources and reference material on online pedagogy and disseminate programmatic information to faculty – specifically those who teach online
  • Promote and support existing faculty development initiatives and programs by expanding the reach of faculty, adjunct faculty and GTAs by offering them in a synchronous and asynchronous online delivery format
  • Provide consultations for faculty to facilitate enhancing and documenting student learning to incorporate High Impact Practices, to incorporate diversity and inclusivity through course design and curricular programs.
  • Collaborate with TTaDA Instructional Design and Digital Learning staff regarding effective use and implementation of instructional technology supported by UND
  • Keep current on Faculty Development Research and Pedagogy in Teaching and Learning including Online and Hybrid Delivery of faculty development opportunities
  • Maintain professional development in the area of faculty development, and the online delivery of faculty development opportunities
  • Research and share national trends for best practices in faculty development
  • Collaborate within Faculty and Staff Development in TTaDA on implementing research findings related to faculty and staff development
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Participate in TTaDA and NDUS meetings as appropriate


Required Competencies:

  • Ability to plan, manage, and organize multiple projects at a time
  • Proficient at organization and time management
  • Prior leadership positions, including a demonstrated ability to build coalitions and implement strategic priorities in alignment with institutional goals
  • Understanding of academic coaching models
  • Demonstrated ability to support the effective use of online and face-to-face instructional materials and current technologies for a variety of learning tasks, student learning needs, and learning environments. 
  • Interpersonal skills that promote team building, collaboration, and a culture that principally understands and measures effectiveness in terms of others’ successes
  • Excellent analytical, written, interpersonal, communication, consultation and presentation skills; must be able to provide examples of written materials related to faculty development (preferably designed for delivery in the online environment)
  • Ability to provide high level of customer service with a positive, energetic outlook

Minimum Requirements
:

  • Master’s degree in an academic discipline, adult learning, or related field
  • At least 3 years’ experience consulting with college or university faculty about engaging students in learning experiences that incorporate authentic scholarly and professional learning activities
  • At least 3 years of higher education teaching
  • Experience with theories and best practices in higher education pedagogy, faculty development, and faculty development in an online environment
  • Successful Completion of Criminal History Records Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D./Ed.D. preferred
  • Experience working at multiple higher education institutions
