Job Summary

Job Duties:  Examples of work for this specific vacancy include but are not limited to:

Function:  Plant Inspector

  • Acts as Chief Inspector at the Hancock MN concrete plant, reporting to and working under the general guidance of soils engineer/principal engineer to ensure successful completion of projects.
  • Directs materials testing and performs occasional sampling and material testing in the field, analyzes test results and assures materials meet MnDOT specifications to secure certification of a construction project and determine the impact of test results and make recommendations related to materials, structural integrity for roadway and bridge construction projects.
  • Performs highly complex inspection activities.
  • Performs complex documentation to record quantity and quality of materials and completes required reports in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Applies enforcement procedures to the contract for the most complex projects.
  • Develops solutions to unforeseen construction problems and/or issues in the field, serves as the contact for field personnel and the primary focal point for contractors and project engineers, communicates relevant information and knows the “go-to” people in all areas of MnDOT for help in resolving problems in the field.

Coordinates construction inspection supplies and equipment to ensure needed supplies and equipment are available when needed.

 Function:  Snow & Ice

  • Maintains roadways for snow and ice control: removes snow from roadways and shoulders; opens and widens roadways of large accumulations of snow; removes snow from rights of way or yards; applies anti-icing and de-icing chemicals on stretches of highway under slippery conditions; removes frozen ice and material from culverts; and performs night or dawn patrols.
  • Prepares and inspects winter equipment-maintains snowplow equipment, cutting edges and sanders; and clean equipment post storm.
  • Performs preseason snow route inspection and performs post storm cleanup including machine or hand sweeping of bridges, guardrails, sidewalks, crossovers, medians, ramps, and roadways.
  • Maintains documentation on snow and ice data for accurate reporting of inventory and resource management
