JOB SUMMARY

Assesses clients/patients and designs occupational therapy treatments. Help clients/patients to develop, maintain and recover their ability to perform tasks in clients/patients occupations of life. The therapist conducts evaluations and provides interventions for clients/patients who have functional, cognitive or behavioral impairments. Occupational Therapist evaluate physical, cognitive, developmental and psychosocial abilities of clients/patients; developing realistic therapy goals and administering appropriate occupational therapy programs. Documents client's/patient's information for evaluation; establishes therapeutic plans and modifies them if necessary. Provides clients/patients education designed to enhance understanding and improve functional outcomes. Knowledge of and utilizes appropriate age-related treatments and evaluations relating to the needs of clients/patients. Demonstrate and incorporate knowledge of current research into daily treatment of clients/patients. May treat individuals of all ages with varying diagnosis and disorders. Will demonstrate documentation in accordance with departmental guidelines and meet all regulatory requirements. Demonstrates level of treatment associated with their specialty provided to their clients/patients. Follows and adheres to accepted clinical practice guidelines of professional organization.Exhibits flexibility with acceptance of variable work schedules/assignments. Participates in activities to promote the department and Sanford Health. Will be interacting with individuals outside of the department including but not limited to: providers, case managers, family members, third party payers, public organizations, etc. May be asked to supervise assistants, aides, and students as they provide patient care, treatment, or other services. Will be expected to provide ongoing education and training to peers in the area(s) of expertise as determined by the department leadership. Performs other related duties as requested by manager.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Creates a team environment of accountability and commitment for reaching project goals. Classifies symptoms using proper assessment and diagnosis techniques and communication skills. Adheres to legal regulations and organizational policies when discussing patient health information. Establishes and maintains productive working relationships within and outside of own area. Identifies the importance of monitoring patient responses and reactions during therapy. Demonstrates knowledge of development and delivery of patient education for diverse audiences. Seeks opportunities to serve as a mentor. Analyzes the physical mental and social components of an activity to develop a therapy plan. Utilizes the occupational therapy process to assess, treat and evaluate patient progress. Identifies common patient safety risks within the organization and how they can be avoided. Knowledge of the value of self-motivation and initiative; ability and willingness to seek out work and the drive to accomplish goals. Recognizes ethical requirements within own specialized areas of responsibility. Follows guidelines, regulations, standards and safety procedures in the therapy process.

DEPARTMENT DETAILS

Outpatient OT position and heavy emphasis on neurologic populations. Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an inpt acute rehab or an outpt neuro facility required. Applicants with experience treating, CVA, Parkinson’s Disease/BIG certification, MS, vision rehabilitation techniques, and cognitive rehabilitation therapy preferred. Must be willing to be active with program development and advancement. Participation in internal and external events to promote department programing can be expected. Occasional in-patient acute care or in-patient orthopedic coverage can be expected as well. Weekends and holidays assigned on a rotating basis

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be licensed in the state(s) of practice as Occupational Therapist.Must also be certified through the National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). When applicable, may require valid driver's license. Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications. Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers required or within the first 60 days of employment. Appropriate education level required in accordance with state licensure.
