POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Position:
Assistant Professor, Department of Physical Education, Exercise Science and Wellness.
This is a tenure-¬track, 9-month appointment.
Responsibilities:
Teaching key undergraduate courses in public health education studies. Develop liaisons with
local and regional agencies for student experiential learning opportunities. Develop research
initiatives including pursuit of external funding; supervise undergraduate and graduate students;
and provide meaningful service to the department, college, university and community.
The Bachelor of Science in Public Health Education has been approved by the North Dakota
State Board of Higher Education and will be offered beginning Fall Semester, 2013.
Qualifications:
Required: Earned doctorate in public/community health or health behavior (PhD, DrPH, or equivalent degree)
physiology by August, 2013. Applicants with ABD will also be considered.
Preferred: Master of Public Health (MPH); Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES);
Certified in Public Health (CPH). The department seeks a high-energy generalist with
successful teaching experience in public health education at the university level, including
supervision of field experiences; involvement in professional organizations; and evidence of
scholarly productivity through writing, presentations and research activity and pursuit of external funding.
Salary: Competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Starting Date: August 16, 2013.
The Department:
The Department of Physical Education, Exercise Science and Wellness is one of five departments
in the College of Education and Human Development. The department has a core faculty of 8
members. Degrees offered are the BS major in Physical Education (with four options: Physical
Education Teacher Education, Related areas, Exercise Science and Wellness Applications, Allied
Health), BS major in Public Health Education (Fall, 2013), two minors (Athletic Coaching and Health
Education), and an MS in Kinesiology. The department is committed to supporting and promoting
ties with health and wellness initiatives that are on-going at UND, including collaborative initiatives
with the USDA Human Nutrition Research Center, School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and
