POSITION DESCRIPTION: The School of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of North Dakota and the College of Business and Public Administration are actively recruiting for two full-time, 9-month appointment, tenure track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor level for the newly created Master of Public Health program and the Master of Public Administration program. Position #1 will be housed at the SMHS with 60% effort within the MPH program and 40% in the MPA program. Position #2 will be housed at the CoBPA with 60% effort within the MPA program and 40% in the MPH program.
The MPH program has specializations that emphasize rural health including Rural Health Management & Policy and Population Health Research & Evaluation. The School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) has a wealth of resources to support a rural health emphasis including one of the nation's most respected community-based medical schools and the preeminent Center for Rural Health. Rural health solutions are essential to the well-being of North Dakotans, but they are also relevant outside of the state. About 50 percent of the world's people and about 20 percent of those in the United States dwell in rural areas. As North Dakota illustrates well, rural areas are diverse and continually changing. The state includes booming towns in the oil and gas fields, agricultural communities in the rich Red River Valley, American Indian lands in the central plains, and frontier locales in the west. Each region is changing in multiple and varied ways including population size, economic basis, and culture. How to meet the challenges of change and diversity within rural areas is of particular importance to public health, and North Dakota is an ideal setting to develop new models of health improvement in rural communities.
Position #1: Candidates must have relevant doctoral degree. This position requires a research specialization in public management and organizational behavior/theory, or health administration. Those candidates with strong skills in general public administration also will be considered. The position requires teaching, mentoring students, and playing an active role in the development of the MPH program, particularly the Rural Health Management & Policy specialization, as well as the Master of Public Administration program. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an independent research program that contributes to the missions of the SMHS and the CoBPA, which may include active participation as a team member in an outcomes research program within the SMHS.
Position #2. Candidates must have relevant doctoral degree. This position requires a research specialization in health policy. We are especially interested in candidates whose research interests address health administration or policy for underserved populations defined through tribal status or other social characteristics such as gender, race, or ethnicity. Candidates with specializations in rural or urban planning, or general public administration also will be considered. The position requires teaching, mentoring students, serving on committees, and playing an active role in the development of the MPH program, particularly the Rural Health Management & Policy specialization, as well as the Master of Public Administration program. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an independent research program that contributes to the missions of the CoBPA and the SMHS, which may include active participation as a team member in an outcomes research program within the SMHS.
