SUPERVISOR Principal
JOB SUMMARY
Assist teachers in providing curriculum support to students performing below their grade level to maximize their academic success; assist special need students with mobility, self-care, communication and social interaction needs to maximize participation in classroom activities.
ASSIGNMENT
1. School contact days (hours assigned by building principal)
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Work with one or more students in a regular classroom setting under the direction and supervision of a licensed teacher.
A. Implement a lesson or learning activity
B. Manage student/s using approved methods
C. Assist students on lessons determined by the teacher
D. Lead a group of students in an activity
E. Help to maintain a positive classroom environment
F. Maintain promptness at all times to keep on schedule with all involved
G. Assist with disruptive behavior in a class setting as to not affect the others’ learning
H. Follow teacher plan to execute if disruptions occur
I. Monitor students for health problems if assigned
J. Assist teacher with organizational needs in a classroom
K. Maintain accurate records regarding students
L. Assist teacher with copying and distributing classroom assignments
M. Correct student assignments
2. Assist student(s) with school materials, objects and managing their environment
A. Assist in various environments, i.e. outdoors, gymnasium, regular classroom settings, library, halls, class trips, etc.
B. Assist with donning coats, boots, mittens, snow pants and hats
C. Assist students with physical transitioning to assist and ensure safety
3. Bus Monitor
A. Assist and/or lift handicapped children into and off of transportation vehicles
B. Assign seating arrangement for children if situation requires structure
C. Assist driver in maintaining order and discipline
CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE
1. Physical Involvement
A. Position requires prolonged position in any combination of body postures, such as squatting, stooping, bending (both sitting and standing), reaching, kneeling, or sitting on the floor while performing student care, or
classroom activities.
B. Position may occasionally exert in excess of 50 lbs. during physical assistance, physical removal or restraint of student/s
2. Mental Involvement
A. Position requires ability to multiple tasking while working with interruptions and classroom noise
B. Position includes prioritizing of work assignments of students with a variety of educational needs
3. Working Conditions
A. Position requires working outdoors for 20-30 minutes in temperatures as cold as -20 degrees Fahrenheit while supervising students
B. Position requires ability to lift and/or carry a minimum of 15 lbs. at least once per day
SUPERVISION OF OTHER EMPLOYEES
1. This position does not include supervision of other District employees
QUALIFICATIONS
1. High School Diploma or equivalent
2. AA degree or paraprofessional assessment test
3. First aid certification is preferred
4. CPR certification is preferred
5. Prior experience within an educational system or working with children preferred
8. Valid Minnesota Driver’s License
9. Must complete the necessary application process and pass a criminal background check and drug screening test
