Under supervision of the Landfill Supervisor and Landfill Maintenance Supervisor, the Leachate & Landfill Gas Technician performs various mechanical and operational maintenance activities with the landfill leachate collection system (LCS) and the landfill gas collection and control system (GCCS). Incumbents are responsible for monitoring operating conditions of equipment within these systems, assisting the supervisor in planning, and coordinating routine maintenance and repairs to equipment. Incumbent also performs maintenance and repairs and/or notifies supervisor of conditions warranting attention to ensure the systems proper operation.

The incumbent is responsible for the quality and accuracy of his/her own work. The position is responsible for the maintenance and operation of equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Knowledge, skills, and ability include:
Most work is performed in a field environment involving working inside and outside of vehicles. Seasonal conditions can include excessive heat or cold. Conditions can include working in wet, muddy, slippery or dusty and windy conditions. At these times there may be intermittent exposure to very disagreeable working conditions. Some assignments involve exposure to odors, such as from solid waste, leachate, or landfill gas. There is often exposure to traffic and moving equipment. There is considerable attention to detail when handling equipment in tight quarters or around people.
Climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, digital dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing/listening, seeing/observing, repetitive motions.
Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

- Properly operate and maintain equipment related to leachate collection system in a timely and cost-effective manner in order to achieve optimum performance standards.
- Perform daily preventative maintenance;
- Observes and listens to equipment to determine malfunctions or parts in need of replacement;
- Operates equipment;
- Performs minor repairs such as cleaning out a clogged pump, replacing parts, or coordinating with supervisor to procure subcontractor services;
- Oversee subcontractor services;
- Maintains records regarding work activities, equipment operation, etc. to provide supervisors with information and to ensure compliance with department rules and state and federal regulations.

- Collect qualitative landfill gas samples from various sources on a predetermined basis;
- Perform daily preventative maintenance;

Knowledge, skills, and ability include:
- Knowledge of local, state and federal laws, rules and regulations concerning leachate and landfill gas collection systems;
- Knowledge of the proper operation and maintenance of equipment used in the leachate and landfill gas collection process including pumps and motors;
- Knowledge of confined space entry and hazardous materials handling as related to leachate and landfill gas collection;
- Knowledge of procedures of sampling and sample testing relative to leachate or landfill gas;
- Skill in performing mechanical maintenance and repair to equipment;
- Skill in reading and writing English sufficient to read and write logs and records;
- Skill in observation and interpretation of changes in system control to sufficiently determine necessary adjustments;
- Skill in operation of leachate collection systems and landfill gas collection equipment and in the performance of all operating systems;
- Skill in the proper and safe operation, servicing and maintenance of any leachate or landfill gas collection equipment;
- Basic level skill in computer use;
- Skill in performing basic math computation;
- Skill in communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
