DEFINITION:
Responsible for the safe and courteous operation of a public transit vehicle.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION STATEMENTS: - Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:
  1. Provide transportation for senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
  2. Operate vehicle in a safe, smooth and defensive manner at all times; obey traffic regulations.
  3. Fuel and prepare vehicle for daily service; thoroughly inspect; fill fluids; spot clean; wash vehicle as needed; and report damage.
  4. Report mechanical concerns and service requirements to maintenance personnel.
  5. Perform fare collection and complete daily reports.
  6. Follow direction of dispatch, adhere to trip manifest, and use two-way radio in a professional manner.
  7. Project positive image to the public and provide exceptional customer service while communicating with peers and the public.
  8. Adhere to passenger safety, sensitivity, and confidentiality standards.
  9. Respond to public complaints and questions in a professional manner.
  10. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge: General knowledge of transit vehicles and their operation and maintenance; use of two-way radios, mobility device lifts, ramps and securement; principles and practices of customer service and de-escalation; City geography; basic mathematical principles; adhere to Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations; responsibilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act; responsibilities under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964; English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Skills: Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities; maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions and demonstrating intellectual capabilities; maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties.

Abilities: Work independently in the absence of supervision; learn and follow city traffic laws, rules and safe vehicle operating procedures; learn and follow Federal transit regulations; general knowledge of city geography and the location of various businesses and agencies; work within the constraints of a time schedule; prepare clear and concise reports; use independent judgment and foresight when assessing road conditions in poor weather; give and follow directions with precision; respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive public inquiries and complaints Experience and Training Guidelines:

Experience:
1 year experience in passenger transportation, human services, or related field
Training:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade
License or Certifications:
Possession of a valid driver's license
