Position Overview:
The Safety Specialist supports the assessment of organizational needs and the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs to ensure a safe work environment for all DigiKey employees. The Safety Specialist provides onsite presence and is a point of contact for onsite workplace safety.
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
(flexibility to adjust work hours based on business needs)
This is an essential onsite position.

This is an essential onsite position.
Responsibilities:
- Review, evaluate, and analyze work environments to ensure company health and safety programs are designed to control, eliminate, and prevent injury
- Participate in facility inspections to enforce adherence to laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals
- Investigate incidents to identify causes and recommend measures to help protect workers from hazardous work methods to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future
- Investigate conditions that could affect employee health, comfort, or performance
- Assist in conducting safety training or education programs
- Inspect specified areas to ensure the presence of fire prevention, safety, and or first-aid supply equipment
- Enter confidential and non-confidential information into various company software systems and databases
- Update & maintain company emergency and crisis management and preparedness programs and procedures
- Assist in conducting, in cooperation with first line supervisors, safety training required by regulation or identified by management, supervisor, or the safety committee as needed to assure a safe workplace
- Recommend improvements in physical plant, machinery, equipment, raw materials and personal protective equipment to management, and Manager, Safety
- Develop and maintain corporate documentation for appropriate standards
- Actively promote safety and health policies and procedures
- Provide the resources to improve and/or maintain a high level of health and safety for employees
- Identify, evaluate, and document workplace hazards
- Assist in establishing methods and procedures for correcting unsafe conditions and work practices
- Assist with accident and injury investigations and follow-ups
- Assist the Manager, Safety in performing safety reviews with the leadership team for assigned location(s)
- Seek and provide feedback on employee safety suggestions/concerns
- Document and follow-up on facility safety inspections/walkthroughs with inspection schedule and checklists
- Assist Manager, Safety in creating and maintaining Safety Programs to include Medical Response Team (MRT), Safety Committee, PDC Safety, and HazMat Team for assigned location(s)
- Other duties as assigned including but not limited to possible reallocation of efforts to other organizations per business need and management request
- High School Diploma/GED
- Strong knowledge of DigiKey brand and its principles
- Strong understanding of the various functions of DigiKey, how they work together, as well as the industry DigiKey operates in
- HSI
- Occasionally climb stairs
- Able to reach with hands and arms above shoulder level
- Generally, spend the workday sitting at a workstation and operating computer devices, such as, but not limited to keyboard, mouse and screen
- Generally, spend the workday performing repetitive motions that involve or affect the hands, head, and other parts of your body
- Capable of spending 8-10 hours walking/standing on concrete
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. from floor to shoulder heightRegular and consistent attendance due to need to access physical equipment
