Bobcat's Student Development Program recruits highly motivated college sophomores, juniors, and seniors majoring in engineering into the role of Engineering Intern Senior. In this internship experience, students work closely with top engineering mentors on high-level projects. Fully immersed in the business and field, students gain invaluable real-world engineering experience. The Student Development Program is a semester-based part-time internship with opportunity to extend multiple semesters. Prior experience in a Bobcat internship or co-op is required.

North Dakota positions available: Design, Electrical, Embedded and Quality

North Carolina positions available: Design and Electrical

Role & Responsibility

Specifically, your internship may provide hands-on work in:

Design:
  • Drive product development and improvement.
  • Generate and modify new and existing parts and drawings in Creo.
  • Manipulate Bill of Materials and preparing engineering change notices.
  • Build prototypes using Bobcat facilities.
  • Participate in design reviews.
  • Complete engineering calculations.
Electrical:
  • Support and improve product electrical systems.
  • Develop electrical harnesses to route signals throughout products.
  • Specify and layout electrical components.
  • Perform engineering calculations.
  • Create and revise electrical schematics.
  • Perform troubleshooting and debugging of electrical systems.
  • Support manufacturing and assembly of electrical components.
Embedded:
  • Develop and improve product software and embedded hardware.
  • Write, test, and debug code for Bobcat products.
  • Create coding tools to help with Bobcat product code development and deployment.
  • Participate in code reviews.
  • Specify hardware requirements for embedded systems.
  • Create and revise embedded schematics.
  • Test embedded systems to ensure proper function and machine integration.
Quality:
  • Maintain a high level of quality control for Bobcat products.
  • Analyze data to spot warranty trends and identify product issues.
  • Work with supplier to ensure supplied components meet engineering specifications.
  • Measure parts and components using various measurement technologies to ensure compliance.
  • Identify failure modes and root causes to drive product and process improvement.
  • Investigate new technologies that have the potential to improve product quality.
  • Collaborate with dealers and customers to determine areas of possible product improvement.
Job Requirement
  • Education Standard: Pursuing Bachelors in Junior or Senior standing at University of Mary, North Dakota State University, or University of North Carolina Charlotte
  • Education Type: Engineering- Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Agricultural Manufacturing or other Engineering/Industrial Technologies
  • GPA 3.0 or higher
  • Knowledge of CAD software preferred (Creo preferred or Solid Works)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Hands-on experience is a plus (farm, mechanic, hobby carpentry, etc.)
  • Project management skills is a plus
  • Be able to commit to Bobcat for the entire term of the internship (3-4 months) and be able to work 12-20 hours per week or 40 hours during the summer term
  • Previous co-op/intern experience with Bobcat is a requirement
  • Time management skills and the ability to work independently
  • Problem solving skills
  • Proficient organization and communication skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to follow written instructions
