Scope
• Provide high quality personal care and ancillary services (housekeeping, dietary, activities) to residents in assisted living/housing environments.
• Communicate with staff, residents, family members, and visitors.
• Work closely with other departments, including volunteers.
• Utilize communication and technology equipment as needed.

Education and Experience Required
• A Minnesota nursing assistant certification is preferred and may be required for some levels of assisted living.
• Experience providing person-directed care in long-term care, home care or assisted living settings is preferred.
• Critical thinking, interpersonal effectiveness and teamwork skills are required.
• Requires exceptional customer services skills and the ability to work calmly and effectively with the elderly.
• Required to complete assigned online education modules within designated timeframes and additional memory loss training.
• Must complete and pass a state required background study.
• Able to physically perform the duties required by the position.
• Able to read, write and speak English well enough to communicate with staff, residents and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide residents individualized, direct care with activities of daily living which may include some or all of the following: showering, bathing, grooming, dressing, oral care, toileting, transferring, fingernail cares and foot cares.
• Perform medication administration, care attendant and other delegated nursing procedures.
• Take and record temperature, weights, blood pressure, pulse and respiration as instructed and communicate any changes or concerns to the nurse.
• Observe residents closely, identifying changing needs and conditions at first indication, and reports immediately to nursing as appropriate.
• Maintain an environment that achieves high quality care (physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual) of residents and maintain their independence and dignity to the highest degree possible within the Knute Nelson continuum.
• Collaborate with the wellness program by embracing all the dimensions of wellness (spiritual, intellectual, physical, vocational, emotional, social, etc.) and providing hands on assistance when needed.
• Assist, supervise and/or prepare meals for residents as required for each shift while following proper infection control guidelines.
• Encourage resident in meal process and maintain flexibility in resident likes and dislikes.
• Maintain an attractive, comfortable, and clean home in an environment consistent with regulations and established policies and procedures and best practices.
• Assist residents as needed to wash, fold and sort residents' personal laundry; supports residents in self-care and provide assistance to ensure residents' personal laundry is maintained in quality condition.
• Maintain effective communication systems with all customers.
• Provide answers to questions and provide assistance to visitors of the housing division.
• Welcome and greet new residents, families and friends.
• Ensure that resident's room is ready for receiving the resident.
• Participate in the orientation of the new resident and family members/friends to the housing environment.
• Help residents feel comfortable and welcomed.
• Consistently work with all team members, led by resident and family preference to meet the needs and desires of all residents.
• Promote activities that help residents achieve "their best day", filled with a wide variety of meaningful relationships and activities.
• Assist residents with activities of their choice including, group, individual or one on one activities.
• Take residents outdoors, or out in the facility community.
• Participate in special events.
• Maintain a working knowledge of Knute Nelson and its programs, services and sites.
• Maintain all required documentation in accordance with regulations and established clinical best practices.
• Participate and assist with evacuation procedures in case of fire, disaster or other occurrences requiring the tenant be moved.
• Practice proper body mechanics and includes safe practices into all job duties.
• Assist in special projects as needed.
• Practice infection control procedures.
• Assist in maintaining stock supplies.
• May assist staff with event preparation and clean-up.
