BILINGUAL IMMIGRATION PARALEGAL – FULL-TIME 

Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid (MMLA) is seeking a full-time bilingual paralegal to work in its Immigration Law Unit.  This position is based in MMLA’s Willmar office and will start as soon as possible after an offer is made.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Apply the principles of MMLA’s Racial Justice Values Statement in all interactions. 
  • Interview clients to gain an understanding of their current situation, their goals in seeking assistance, and all facts related to achieving those goals. 
  • Prepare detailed summaries of relevant facts and maintain complete and current case files in the agency’s electronic case management system. 
  • Complete immigration forms under the direction of an Immigration Attorney. 
  • Work with community agency partners to plan and promote legal advice clinics in the community. 
  • Provide information and outreach to community members across the 10-county area served by the Willmar office. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Professional Working Proficiency in English and in a language spoken by members of the communities served, particularly Spanish, Somali, or Karen. 
  • Ability to do short travel within Central Minnesota. 
  • Demonstrated interest in and commitment to the needs of low-income/vulnerable clients. 
  • Creativity and the desire to work semi-independently. 
  • Ability to collaborate with team members. 
  • Strong attention to detail. 
  • Excellent analytical and written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). 
  • Diverse economic, social, and cultural experiences are preferred. 

 

SALARY: $46,078 to $48,890 per year, depending on experience, plus benefits. Benefits include family medical and dental insurance, short- and long-term disability, life insurance, 403(b) with employer match, FSA, employee assistance programs, and generous paid time off.
