This role supports the development, implementation, and growth of the Next Chapter at NDSU program by fostering connections with schools, 4-H clubs, collaborating with NDSU Admissions on and off campus, and working with the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources Recruitment Coordinator and Extension personnel. A key focus will be to increase exposure to agricultural degrees at NDSU, creating a clear pathway for youth from high school to their chosen careers.
The position involves coordinating with Extension and College of Ag teams to develop and pilot new career exploration components that enrich the existing Next Chapter curriculum. Responsibilities include promoting program involvement among North Dakota schools and 4-H clubs, leading informational sessions, training opportunities, organizing in-class support from NDSU staff, and planning both on- and off-campus events. Additionally, this role will bring creativity to curriculum development, including the creation of innovative resources like Careers in a Box.
Specific Responsibilities:
This position includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:
Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is a full-time, fifteen-month contract, non-tenure track position within NDSU Extension, entailing occasional evening and weekend commitments without accruing overtime. Statewide travel is required. Overnight trips will also be required on occasion for meeting, activities, training, and professional development. Situated within NDS Extension 4-H Youth Development, and the Department of Agriculture and Family Education, this role operates under the supervision of the 4-H Youth Development Associate Director. The office for this role is situated on the NDSU campus in Fargo, specifically in the Family Life Science building, room 219.
Advertised Salary: $50,000+, to commensurate with experience

- Program Development
- Lead recruitment efforts to engage schools, 4-H clubs, and other entities in learning about and utilizing the Next Chapter at NDSU program.
- Build relationships with campus and industry professionals to create new, career-focused curricula that enhance career exploration.
- Identify engaging career pathways linked to NDSU degrees, and develop hands-on learning tools, such as Careers in a Box or educational trucks, to inspire youth.
- Provide professional development for Extension and educational professionals through trainings, webinars, and how-to guides related to the Next Chapter program.
- Pursue collaborative opportunities with colleagues, volunteers, faculty, youth, community partners, and other stakeholders.
- Professional Expectations
- A productive and proactive team member of the state 4-H office.
- Candidates must be self-directed with minimal supervision and work flexible and extended hours to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines.
- Candidates must stay relevant with new teaching strategies, developing technology, advances in professional development, and up to date with related research.
- Be a resource for school-based personnel and county-based Extension professionals, volunteers, partners, and clientele.
- Ability to lift and carry 10-40 pounds occasionally.
- Administrative Duties
- Communicate regularly with administration, coworkers and others on relevant 4-H programming and personnel issues.
- Follow and support related NDSU, NDSU Extension, and 4-H policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:
- An earned bachelor's degree in any area of study.
- Familiarity with various ethnic and socioeconomic audiences, an interest and ability to collaborate and work with people of diverse backgrounds, and a commitment to the principles of diversity.
- Demonstrated personal/interpersonal skills, including effective oral and written communication skills, to teach and interact effectively with a variety of audiences including youth, Extension staff, faculty and stakeholders.
- Possess a valid driver's license.
- An earned bachelor's with coursework in a discipline or program related to education, youth development or related field of study.
- Experience in teaching (formal or non-formal) and positively interacting with and managing youth and adults.
- Two or more years of professional experience in designing, conducting and evaluating educational programs for youth and adults.
- Basic understanding of the Cooperative Extension System and the land-grant university.
- Basic understanding of the North Dakota formal school system.
- Experience using organizational and logistical skills, with attention to detail, to lead, organize, implement, manage, market and evaluate youth-focused and or adult educational programs related to STEM topics.
- Record of successful partnerships at community, state and/or national levels.
