TITLE: Assistant Professor in Agribusiness Finance

POSITION LOCATION: Department of Agribusiness and Applied Economics, North Dakota State University

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The position is a research and teaching position in the areas of agricultural finance which may include emphasis in agribusiness, cooperative, farm/ranch finance and/or risk. The position will affiliate with other colleagues in the Department of Agribusiness and Applied Economics in addition to activities in the Quentin Burdick Center for Cooperat ives, the AgCountry Endowed Chair in Agribusiness and the Center of Trading and Risk, each housed in the Department.

The position is tenure-track and for a 9-month academic year and the split is: 90% Research, 10% teaching.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will be expected to initiate research in areas related to and including agricultural, agribusiness, cooperative, farm/ranch finance and/or risk. Some of this research would be collaborative with faculty working in these fields. Teaching responsibility would be one course per year in the areas of agricultural finance, agribusiness and/or risk, depending on the needs of the department. Responsibilities may include a second course accommodated by a larger teaching appointment.

Faculty evaluations are based on successful publications in leading disciplinary journals, active participation in professional activities, effective teaching and advising at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, satisfactory service and outreach activities to the profession, state, university, and department as well as successful pursuit of extramural funding sufficient to support an active research program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum requirements include:
  1. earned Ph.D. in agricultural economics, or closely related disciplines. ABD candidates will be considered provided degree will be conferred before the start date.
  2. experience in teaching and research in agribusiness and/or agricultural finance.
  3. expertise in agribusiness finance and quantitative methods.
  4. effective oral and written communication skills.
  5. ability to conduct research and disseminate results in leading academic journals.

Preferred qualifications include:
  1. evidence of teaching effectiveness.
  2. interest and/or training in agricultural finance, agribusiness, cooperative business structures, and/or risk analysis.
  3. ability to supervise MS students
  4. ability to obtain extramural funding to support research activities.
  5. ability to communicate research results to clientele groups.
  6. demonstrated consistent and excellent contributions to research and publication, and scholarship.
  7. record or externally funded research in the areas of agricultural, agribusiness finance, or risk analysis.

Burdick Center for Cooperatives (QBCC) helps cooperative businesses reach their potential while being the region's trusted source for education, outreach and research on cooperative businesses. AgCountry Endowed Chair in Agribusiness: The department is hiring a new endowed chair in agribusiness, titled AgCountry Endowed Chair in Agribusiness. This will be a senior position and will provide leadership in the field of agribusiness and finance, both in teaching and research.
