The Extension agent will develop, plan, deliver, facilitate and evaluate successful, research-based educational programs in food, nutrition and healthy lifestyles to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)-eligible persons in Cass County that result in positive community impacts. This is a full-time position based in the NDSU Extension Cass County office, located in Fargo, ND. Supervision is provided by the Extension district director serving Cass County.
This position includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

Work Schedule:
8:00 a.m. - 5 p.m. (some nights and weekends)

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in family and consumer sciences, education, health and nutrition, or a closely related field; a bachelor's degree with work experience related to the position; OR Master's degree in family and consumer sciences, education, health and nutrition, or a closely related field.
2. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders.
3. Basic computer skills and ability to use Microsoft office programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
4. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with individuals, groups and through mass media.
5. Ability to conduct oneself professionally, be self-directed in the work environment and work flexible and extended hours.
6. Ability to use technology for communication, information finding, program delivery, and r eporting.
7. Familiarity with various ethnic and socioeconomic audiences, an interest and ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
8. Personal vehicle and valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Master's degree in human development, family and consumer sciences, education, health and nutrition, or a closely related field.
2. Demonstrated work or volunteer experience with adults or youth from low-income households.
3. Experience in designing and delivering food and nutrition educational programs.
4. Recent Extension work experience.

- Utilize current university research and input from advisory groups, community groups, and representatives of intended audiences to identify local programming needs and assist in developing educational programs in the areas of food, nutrition and health to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)-eligible households.
- Plan, develop, conduct and evaluate educational programs for eligible adult and youth audiences in Cass County.
- Build partnerships and collaborate with county, tribal, state and federal governmental units, local organizations, businesses and others to provide a comprehensive program in nutrition education and outreach targeting eligible households.
- Engage local stakeholders to initiate and expand community food and wellness projects.
- Comply with all reporting deadlines and requirements (e.g. actions plans, quarterly effort reports, narrative reports and success stories/impact statements).
- Build and maintain collaborative working relationships with peer Extension agents, Extension specialists, and other local stakeholders to conduct educational programming in Cass County.
- Market and share impact of programming to expand the public's view of Extension programming through mass and social media.
- Develop effective and contemporary approaches to communicate with clientele including listening, speaking and writing. This may include the use of constantly evolving electronic technologies (e.g. Facebook, etc.)
- Support the total NDSU Extension program, serve as an effective team member, volunteer for leadership roles and accept statewide responsibilities related to FNP as appropriate.
- Ensure compliance with federal, tribal, state and local law, policies and procedures including c ivil r ights, youth protection and NDSU Human Resources.
- Be an active learner to keep relevant with new teaching strategies, advances in the professional field, technology, news and related research.
- Be self-directed with minimal supervision in the work environment.
- Adjust to a flexible schedule that includes some required weekend and evening work.
- Frequent travel within the county and occasional travel outside the county is required. Overnight trips are required on occasion for meetings, conferences, and professional development.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of Extension programming.
