Position Overview:

The Department of Plant Pathology at North Dakota State University is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Assistant Professor to join our Soybean Pathology Lab. The successful candidate will be expected to lead a research program focused on advancing our understanding and management of soybean diseases, with a particular emphasis on diseases affecting soybean production in North Dakota.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Writing and submitting research grant proposals to secure funding for research projects and managing the budget and resources for funded projects.
  • Conduct field trials and experiments related to soybean disease management, including field site management, plot establishment, and data collection.
  • Conduct greenhouse trials and experiments related to soybean disease management.
  • Analyze experimental data, using statistical and computational tools.
  • Collaborate with Extension specialists, soybean pathologists, agronomists, and other agricultural professionals to develop and implement research protocols.
  • Publish reports and peer-reviewed publications to disseminate research findings.
  • Supervise and train undergraduate students, graduate students, and other personnel involved in research projects.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum:
    • Doctorate degree in Plant Pathology.
    • 3+ years of experience working in applied soybean pathology.
    • Experience in conducting plant pathology field research.
    • Strong understanding of soybean production and disease management practices.
    • Excellent organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
    • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Proficiency in data analysis and use of statistical software.
    • Experience in writing and successfully being awarded external funding from research grants.
    • Experience in managing a team of researchers.
    • Certified Pesticide Applicator in North Dakota.
  • Preferred:
    • Experience with disease forecasting models and decision support tools.
    • Familiarity with North Dakota's agricultural systems and soybean disease challenges.
    • Experience with Extension activities and farmer outreach.
