Position Description & Details:

The Forage, Biomass and Cover Crops project in the Department of Plant Sciences, North Dakota State University is seeking for a Research Program Coordinator to plan and coordinate the research, administrative, operational, outreach, and promotional activities related to research being conducted by five federally and privately funded grants in Berti's lab. Funding is secured for this position until December 2026. Renewal of this position beyond this date could be extended based on funding availability and performance of the incumbent.

Responsibilities for the full-time Research Program Coordinator include:
  • Assist the forage and biomass production project leader to develop, plan, coordinate, and implement data collection, processes and protocols to support research objectives in all grants being handled by Dr. Berti's lab.
  • Create and develop a data management plan for each project and curate data from project's members for safe deposit in data repositories.
  • Assists with communications and outreach for suppliers, stakeholders, and collaborators.
  • Organize in-state and out-of-state outreach and promotional activities including, guest speakers travel and accommodations, catering, and general needs.
  • Organize monthly meetings with collaborators in each project.
  • Assist and conduct lab (greenhouse studies, DNA extraction, library preparation, genomics studies, NIRS analysis) and field research (planting, weeding, harvesting, seed cleaning, etc.) when needed.
  • Assist Dr. Berti's team members with poster designing, abstract, grants, reports, and publications writing.
  • Keep track of progress and deliverables required in each grant.
Advertised Salary: $55,000+/year

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Earned MS degree in biology, agronomy, plant sciences, soil science or closely related discipline.
  • Experience in designing and conducting field and lab research.
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to work effectively with faculty, research and industry professionals, graduate students, or growers.
  • Experience in planning and coordinating large research/ demonstration projects.
  • Interest in developing sustainable cropping systems enhancing ecosystem services delivery.
  • Computer competence in the use of Excel, Power Point, Word, and statistical analysis software.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and writing communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge in molecular genetics, plant physiology, and plant breeding.
  • Knowledge on bioenergy crops, cover crops, or and forages.
  • Interest in developing sustainable cropping systems.
  • Interest in carbon sequestration and carbon intensity of food systems.
  • Demonstrated scientific publications record.
