The Agricultural Risk Policy Center (ARPC) at North Dakota State University invites applications for multiple non-tenure track Senior Research Economist positions at the Research Assistant Professor rank. These 10-month appointments offer exciting opportunities to engage in high-level research focused on policy evaluation in agricultural risk management. The successful candidates will play a key role in developing a predictive model to assess the impacts of agricultural risk management policies using farm-level RMA data and advanced econometric methods and economic models. This position is an excellent opportunity for recent Ph.D. graduates or early-career professionals to establish a highly rewarding research career in agricultural economics and policy analysis. Salary is highly competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The primary focus of these positions is to conduct rigorous policy evaluations to improve the effectiveness of agricultural risk management programs. The successful candidates will develop foundational models to evaluate the economic and policy impacts of various agricultural risk management programs, particularly concerning crop insurance participation, subsidy rates, and risk management practices. The research will inform evidence-based policy recommendations, contributing to developing more resilient and efficient agricultural systems in the United States. In addition, the successful candidates will produce policy reports, guiding decisions related to crop insurance, livestock risk management, and dairy insurance programs. Collaboration with external partners and stakeholders, such as policymakers and agricultural institutions, will be integral to expanding the scope and impact of these research initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A doctorate in agricultural economics, applied economics, or a related field is required by the start date of the position.
  • Expertise in policy evaluation models and econometric analysis in agricultural risk management.
  • Experience with farm-level RMA data or similar detailed datasets for empirical analysis.
  • Strong technical skills in econometric modeling and advanced statistical methods.
  • Ability to present complex policy evaluations to stakeholders, including policymakers and agricultural stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong record of peer-reviewed publications in agricultural economics or related fields.
  • Experience in securing external funding for research projects.
  • Advanced statistical and economic modeling methods.
  • Familiarity with U.S. agricultural policy and engagement with agricultural stakeholders in risk management.
  • Ability to translate research findings into actionable policy insights
