The Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute (UGPTI) at NDSU is seeking candidates for a GIS Specialist position.

This position is Hybrid-eligible through the Fargo or Bismarck, ND office. Travel within North Dakota required.

The primary objectives of this position are to:
  • Provide roadway engineering expertise in research, education, and other outreach activities;
  • Participation in knowledge-building for local paved and unpaved roadway management in road safety and mobility strategies, data collection, decision support/analysis, and traffic modeling;
  • Identify knowledge gaps and share innovative practices and data-driven decision tools in capacity building for local and tribal transportation agencies;
  • Work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and effectively communicate ideas, opinions and solutions related to current and future project activities.

Advertised Salary: $85,000 +/DOE

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
  • Experience and knowledge of local paved and unpaved road planning, design and maintenance
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of tribal transportation and land use
  • Experience with local road managers and stakeholders
  • Road network safety screening
  • Working knowledge of life cycle costing
  • GIS Experience
