Senior Research Economist and Associate Director (10-month)
The Agricultural Risk Policy Center (ARPC) at North Dakota State University invites applications for a non-tenure track position as Associate Director at the rank of Associate or Full Research Professor. The Associate Director will work closely with the ARPC Director to set the strategic direction of the Center's research agenda. This collaborative role involves guiding the development of predictive models for agricultural risk management policies, overseeing policy evaluation efforts, and delivering timely near-time analyses to help policymakers respond to market disruptions. The Associate Director's input will be integral to the success of the Center's mission to inform U.S. agricultural policy with data-driven insights.
A vital part of this position is collaborating daily with the Director to ensure the smooth execution of research projects, secure external funding, and establish partnerships with policymakers and agricultural institutions. The Associate Director will also lead efforts to expand the Center's influence by producing policy reports that provide actionable recommendations for decision-makers. In this role, the Associate Director will help bridge the gap between academic research and policy implementation, ensuring ARPC findings drive meaningful changes in agricultural risk management.
The Associate Director will provide day-to-day oversight of research teams, mentor junior researchers, and foster a collaborative environment that encourages innovative approaches to problem-solving. The Associate Director will report directly to the ARPC Director and work closely with them to secure external funding for research projects, ensuring the sustainability and growth of ARPC initiatives. - Lead the development of predictive models to assess the impacts of agricultural risk management policies using farm-level RMA data and advanced econometric methods.
- Oversee policy evaluation efforts to provide evidence-based recommendations on key agricultural risk management issues such as crop insurance participation and subsidy rates.
- Provide near-time policy analyses to address emerging agricultural market disruptions, working with the Director to ensure timely delivery of actionable insights to policymakers.
- Cultivate and manage partnerships with external stakeholders, including policymakers, agricultural institutions, and industry leaders, to expand the reach of ARPC research.
- Mentor junior researchers and manage research teams, ensuring high-quality research outputs and fostering a collaborative research environment.
- Work closely with the Director to secure external funding for ongoing and future research projects, ensuring the sustainability and growth of ARPC's initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in agricultural economics, economics, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated expertise in econometric modeling and policy evaluation, particularly in the context of agricultural risk management programs.
- Significant experience working with farm-level RMA data or other comparable datasets, with a track record of producing empirical analyses that inform policy recommendations.
- Proven ability to lead research projects and manage research teams, ensuring timely delivery of high-impact research findings.
- Excellent communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to effectively convey complex research results to policymakers, stakeholders, and academic audiences.
- A strong record of peer-reviewed publications in agricultural economics, risk management, or related fields, showcasing thought leadership in the sector.
- Proven success in securing external funding, particularly for large-scale research projects involving agricultural risk or policy analysis.
- Familiarity with U.S. agricultural policy frameworks, including crop insurance programs and agricultural risk management strategies, and experience collaborating with policymakers and industry leaders.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain institutional partnerships that enhance the visibility and impact of research findings.
- Advanced knowledge of statistical methods and econometrics, with an emphasis on their application in agricultural risk and policy contexts.
