Healthcare Reporter

Forum Communications is looking for an experienced journalist to live and work in Fargo, ND or Sioux Falls, SD to cover the business of health and health care, including industry news, research, trends, technology, economy and policy issues.

The focus will be Sanford Health, which has an extensive network of hospitals and clinics throughout the Dakotas and Minnesota, and other regional health providers.

Sanford Health is the largest employer in North Dakota and South Dakota, and their facilities are essential to the communities, economy and culture where they operate.

Forum Communications, a family owned media company, is expanding its investment in health and health care journalism to serve audiences across the Upper Midwest.

The health care reporter will join a team leading our company's initiative to cover health and healthcare, with a primary focus on Sanford Health, and collaborate with reporters across the company.

As one of two FCC health care reporters, you will work in the Forum's main headquarters and produce journalism for the wider company network.

As an ideal candidate, you should be an accomplished journalist who focuses on news of regional or national interest for a variety of health trends and issues related to industry/business/economy, research and development, and policy/regulatory issues.

In the role, you are responsible for producing digital and enterprise components, in addition to breaking news, to provide context and perspective related to health and health care topics.

As a seasoned journalist, you should be comfortable covering breaking news, writing on deadline, producing video stories and still photography and working in a mobile environment on occasion.

In coordination with the director of digital content development, you will plan coverage and assignments for a mix of daily and enterprise reporting while collaborating with others to provide stories for multiple platforms.

Position Requirements

Other preferred candidate requirements include at least a bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field, two or more years of journalism experience (preferably with a background of health or business reporting) and demonstrated command of video and photography skills.

As a reporter, you should have excellent communication skills, be highly organized, detail oriented, effective in using social media platforms and content management systems, able to handle sensitive and emotional situations, maintain confidentiality, balance demands, set priorities, manage multiple issues/projects at a time and produce clean, crisp content in a fast-paced, deadline oriented environment.

The person hired for the position must possess a valid driver's license and a driving record insurable by the company while carrying an acceptable level of vehicle insurance.
