Position Description:
The Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute invites applications for an engineering position. The UGPTI offers an exciting opportunity to pursue analysis and professional development in activities that focus on transportation infrastructure cost analysis, deterioration modeling and maintenance support. The candidate seeking to join us for this position will be involved in a wide range of surface transportation issues. The individual will have the opportunity to utilize his/her strengths in contributing to an on-going program of highway and bridge infrastructure analysis and knowledge transfer. This is a full-time benefited position. Specific responsibilities include:
(1) Provide engineering expertise in transportation planning and infrastructure studies about pavements, bridges and truck related freight movements.
(2) Provide technology transfer support to ND LTAP program.
(3) Analyze traffic forecasts and rural truck and freight travel demand trends to brainstorm travel demand modeling concepts and solutions with UGPTI Economists.
(4) Provide local government technical support as well as input and feedback for the continued maintenance, development and enhancements of the Geographic Roadway Inventory Tool ( GRIT ).
(5) Provide quarterly reports of work progress and deliverables.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field
• Experience and knowledge of highway transportation with emphasis on planning, design and maintenance of pavements, bridges and associated deterioration
• Truck size and weight knowledge as applied to infrastructure design and deterioration
• Working knowledge of life cycle costing
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's degree in civil engineering or related field
• Licensed Professional Engineer or ability to become registered within one year
• A demonstrated knowledge of transportation and freight movements
• Ability to write basic computer programs such as SAS
• Working knowledge of gravity models for transportation analysis
• Working knowledge and/or educational background with GIS software
