Part-time unlimited (75%) Counselor for EGF Campus

Description: Northland Community & Technical College (NCTC) seeks a part-time, unlimited Counselor dedicated to excellence in providing Academic, Career and Personal counseling to all NCTC students. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to interdisciplinary and cross-cultural perspectives. Incumbent will work a 171 day flexible calendar (with an anticipated 10 extra days.) over the fiscal year, July through June, rather than the academic year at 75% (6 hour days).

Counseling faculty are professionally trained to identify the difficulties students face in pursuing and achieving their educational goals. Crucial to providing effective assistance and support is the counselor's understanding of the students' stated goals within the context of human development and the inevitable changes that occur as students' progress through a college education. Even when students articulate clear initial goals, counseling faculty understand that students' lives and goals change as a result of their unfolding educational experiences or personal situations.

Faculty members at NCTC are professionally active scholars who participate in departmental and campus-wide activities to enhance their disciplines, promote interdisciplinary discourse and collaboration, and advance the college mission. The college is committed to reflecting a diversity of perspectives and backgrounds among its administrators, faculty and staff.

Examples of Duties:
Counseling faculty are professionally trained to identify the difficulties students face in pursuing and achieving their educational goals. Crucial to providing effective assistance and support is the counselor's understanding of the students' stated goals within the context of human development and the inevitable changes that occur as students progress through a college education. Even when students articulate clear initial goals, counseling faculty understand that students' lives and goals change as a result of their unfolding educational experiences or personal situations.

To accomplish the mission of providing essential support to community and technical college students, faculty counselors perform a set of core functions through individual and group interactions, as well as classroom instruction. These functions are fundamental to the mission of community and technical college counseling and are derived partially from materials from the American Counseling Association.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: (expected to have to enter job):
Education Requirement
* Master's degree in counseling or counseling psychology.
Teaching and Learning Competency Requirement
* Course construction (credit course)*
* Teaching/instructional methods (credit course)*
* Student outcomes assessment/evaluation (credit course)*
* Philosophy of community and technical college education (credit or non-credit course)**
* Faculty shall have a degree in education or three years of successful full-time (or equivalent) teaching experience prior to being hired, or shall be required to complete coursework in the above content areas (or their equivalent) prior to being granted unlimited status.
* These courses shall be waived for individuals who at the time of hire have: a degree in education, or have documented evidence of successful completion of equivalent coursework in the specified teaching and learning content areas, or have three years of successful, full-time (or equivalent) secondary, postsecondary, industry, or trade apprenticeship teaching experience in the field for which they are being hired. ** This course shall be waived for individuals who, at the time of hire, have documented evidence of successful completion of equivalent coursework. (Procedure 3.32.1 College Faculty Credentialing, Part 5, Subpart B.3)

Preferred Qualifications (desired but not expected to have to enter job):
* Licensed professional counselor
* Experience in providing personal counseling.
* Two-years of counseling at the college level
* A demonstrated ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and students with a broad range of interests and abilities
* Experience working in a higher education setting.
