Job Details

Position Description:
This position will advance NDSU's research interests through engagement of internal and external constituents on matters related to industry sponsored research and intellectual property protection. Reporting to the NDSU Executive Director of Industry Engagement and Intellectual Property and the Executive Director of the NDSU Research Foundation, this position will be expected to 1) actively engage with researchers to develop an understanding of the research expertise on campus and help faculty/researchers identify potential inventions to disclose with a goal of increasing both the number of inventions and the number of researchers disclosing inventions, 2) facilitate protection of inventions and intellectual property disclosed to NDSU through managing a portfolio of patent applications, and 3) develop and manage relationships with business partners and faculty-inventors to make strategic connections for sponsored research and licensing opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications:
• B.S. degree in Chemistry, Materials, Engineering or other technical field or Business
• 0-2 years of relevant experience in technology transfer, licensing, IP protection, or community/economic development
• Experience working with internal and/or external constituents toward a common goal
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member
• Demonstrated ability to work independently

Preferred Qualifications:
• Advanced degree in science or engineering or MBA
• 2+ years of relevant experience in university collaborations, technology transfer, licensing or economic/community development
• Experience in research, market research, or product development
• 2+ years of relevant knowledge and/or experience in commercialization of emerging technologies or technology acquisition
• Knowledge of patents and technology focused contracts
• General knowledge of U.S. patent law
