JOB SUMMARY

Provides professional dental assisting care for patients of all ages following established standards and practices.

Responsible for performing all dental assisting duties in accordance with the rules and regulations of the state specific Board of Dentistry. Knowledge and ability to perform clinical emergency procedures. Ability to implement policies, procedures and treatment guidelines. Assist providers directly in all phases of dental care delivery. Knowledge to properly maintain patient care related equipment, supplies and processes. Ability to use appropriate systems, automated or manual, to maintain accurate patient records and other information. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, dental staff and the public. Ability to communicate clearly. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Dental staff are expected to know and will be held accountable for following infection prevention and control policies and procedures.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist dentist in management of medical or dental emergencies. Assist dental hygienist with patient care and instrument sterilization. Take and record medical and dental histories and vital signs of patients. Record treatment information in (EMR) patient records. Prepare patient, sterilize or disinfect instruments, set up instrument trays, prepare materials, or assist dentist during dental procedures. Performs quality control and maintains a high standard in relation to infection control mechanisms for patient safety. Maintains current certifications in specialty and continues education when necessary. Follows safety measures to ensure proper use of devices and tools. Follows pre-established patient safety guidelines. Ensures an appropriate flow of communications within the team.

QUALIFICATIONS

Graduate of an accredited school of dental assisting.
One year of professional dental assisting experience preferred.
Must be a registered dental assistant in the State of Minnesota. Must meet continuing education requirements for state licensure.
