The Commons, located in Minneapolis, is the headquarters of Allina Health, a not-for-profit health care organization serving patients and communities. Approximately 1,600 corporate and administrative service employees work at offices within Midtown Exchange, the site of the historic Sears retail complex at Chicago Avenue and E. Lake Street. This community landmark, adjacent to the campus of Abbott Northwestern Hospital, part of Allina Health, is the second largest building in Minnesota and includes offices, an internationally themed public market and residential units.

Utilizes expertise in medical insurance and billing while performing job related tasks to ensure submission of accurate and timely claims; thereby avoiding re-work, denials and adjustments. In addition, ensures business related procedures, processes, workflows and staff are working together to deliver on our promise for an excellent experience for Allina Health patients.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, using tools, electronic resources (i.e. electronic queries, payer websites) and/or phone to prepare, review, correct, and update insurance claims for submission to payer; correct and update patient demographic information and document in the automated patient record system; resolve patient and insurance billing issues; follow-up on accounts to resolve unpaid and denied claims. Identifies and obtains prior authorization, health plan referral and/or coverage limitations prior to the date of service, whenever possible.

Education

High school graduate or equivalent.

Qualification/Skills

Two (2) or more years of revenue cycle, healthcare, and/or insurance field experience required or a combination of post-secondary education and work experience to equal three (3) years.
Two years customer service experience required.
Medical terminology required.
Epic (automated medical record) experience preferred.
Strong demonstrated skills and abilities:Demonstrate knowledge of hospital UB and professional 1500 claim processing.
Up-to-date knowledge of hospital billing regulations, comprehension of industry standards, and the ability to apply those skills to specific billing tasks.
Data entry skills and mathematical aptitude
Ability to utilize internet web based payer sites and decipher electronic eligibility and claim response information.
Strong written and verbal communications

40 hours per week
Mon-Fri 8:30 am-5 pm
