Responsible for the instruction of fitness classes, motivating participants of various abilities and fitness levels using physiologically sound and biomechanically safe methods.
Displays the ability to operate stereo and microphone equipment for the duration of fitness classes. Choreographs fitness routines and class layouts. Demonstrates the ability to partake in the fitness activities and adapt exercise instruction to various ages and fitness level. Actively looks for ways to help class members. Possesses the ability to manage time effectively so classes run on time. Requires skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with Sanford team, Sanford members and the public. Aids in cleaning and maintaining locker room facilities, fitness areas, and pool area when necessary. Requires the ability to act calmly and effectively to emergency situations. Depending on location, will serve as life guard for some classes and shifts.
Responds to non-verbal communication such as body language or voice inflection. Provide individual support or counseling in general wellness or nutrition. Plan routines, choose appropriate music, and choose different movements for each set of muscles, depending on participants' capabilities and limitations. Inspect recreational facilities for cleanliness. Identifies information within own function that cannot be disclosed. Employs appropriate techniques for maintaining team enthusiasm, energy, and focus. Demonstrates a personal commitment to contributing to others' well being. Creates skill-practice opportunities for subject of coaching. Uses language appropriate to audience. Monitor participants' progress and adapt programs as needed. Teach fitness classes to improve strength, flexibility, cardiovascular conditioning, or general fitness of participants. Service, clean, or supply restrooms. Seeks feedback on own verbal and non-verbal communications style and effectiveness.
Looking for and individual that is certified in Barre, Tabata, Zumba, and Pilates. Classes will be 1 evening/week.
High school diploma required.
Background in physical education preferred. Experience in exercise, fitness, and aerobics classes is preferred. Meeting the continuing education requirements of applicable certification organization is required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within six months of hire. Additionally, a nationally recognized certification is required within one year of hire into the position, such as: American Council on Exercise (ACE), Athletics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), National Exercise Trainers Association (NETA), International Fitness Association (IFA), National Academy of Sports Management (NASM), or Exercise Science Alliance. If water instructor, a nationally recognized water certification is also required within that first year. Depending on location, life guard certification is required within that time frame.
