Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification$26,500/year, full time, benefited, non-exempt

The purpose of this position is to receive, process and oversee retention of U.S. federal government documents as a Shared Regional Depository Library, including GPO’s electronic titles. Maintain the documents according to federal regulations. Provide library users accurate online access government documents in multiple formats, both tangible and online, through Alma by doing Copy Cataloging using OCLC, AACR and RDA cataloging rules, LCSH, and LC according to standards. Perform catalog maintenance and quality assurance tasks to ensure online bibliographic, item, and other records are maintained or updated according to standards; process materials accordingly. Assist in maintaining the library’s Shared Regional Depository collection in cooperation with North Dakota State University. Assist patrons in finding government documents.


Required Competencies:
 

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment with diverse groups of library staff; ability to coordinate and implement projects; good organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • An aptitude for detailed work.
  • A reading knowledge of foreign book trade terminology.
  • Able to implement rules, procedures, practices or operations acquired through considerable specialized training or experience, able to effectively use standard office equipment such as personal computers, specialized software, labeling equipment, materials processing equipment, and full ability to use ODIN's Academic Library Services Platform and related online or networked software.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of concepts and application of rules, standards, and practices for organizing information.

Minimum Requirements:
 

  • Bachelors degree in library science or relevant area of study
  • Cataloging experience with specialized format or content manuals/standards. e.g. Government Documents and SUDOC classification; knowledge of additional subject thesauri e.g. LC genre vocabularies.
  • Experience with acquisitions and serials management.
  • Successful completion of a criminal history background check

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in copy cataloging using OCLC and experience using a library services platform (LSP) online library system to perform technical services activities in an academic library. 
  • Experience with bibliographic description and assigning and establishing name, series and uniform title headings applying AACR, RDA, and MARC formats; subject analysis applying LCSH and SCM: Subject Headings.
  • Experience with computer applications (word processing, spreadsheets) and web resources and the ability to integrate them in workflow.
  • Experience maintaining bibliographic, item, holdings, serials, and acquisitions database records to current standards.
