Become part of a team that helps the dream of home ownership come true! WHEDA is seeking an Underwriter 2 to join our Single Family Origination Team in our Madison office! This position is responsible for in underwriting, and evaluating and implementing loan products. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Reviews and evaluates loans for creditworthiness and compliance with program requirements, which includes: analyzing income, credit, assets, and property; conducting compliance analysis; reviewing applications; and/or, performing other related due-diligence activities; Interacts with customers regarding loan decisions, approvals, denials, and general information; Participates in developing and implementing policies and procedures; Participates in the development, testing, and implementation of new products or systems related to residential credit; Provides training and outreach for external and internal customers, which includes developing training content, selecting materials, and facilitating training sessions; Maintain confidentiality as it pertains to customer information and any other information obtained in your role as a WHEDA employee; Performs other duties of a similar nature or level. Position Specific Duties include: Participates in web-based seminars, which includes developing, writing, and formatting content for web-based seminars; Reviews and evaluates loan creditworthiness and compliance for loan products; Reviews applications for regulatory compliance (e.g., RESPA, TILLA, etc.); Expert ability to navigate and interpret all agency and authority guidelines; Actively manage individual pipeline, daily, by completing daily assigned underwriting reviews, condition reviews and other underwriting tasks within established turn times. Knowledge required for this position includes: FNMA and FHLMC guidelines; FHA/HUD guidelines; Must possess Direct Endorsement (DE) designation; Proficiency with automated underwriting systems such as Loan Product Advisor (LPA) and Desktop Underwriter (DU); Underwriting principles and practices; Loan application documentation and processing procedures; Credit report review principles and practices; Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations; Business development principles and processes; Negotiation methods; Financial principles and practices. Skills required for this position includes: Analyzing problems and recommending appropriate solutions; Providing customer service; Prioritization and time management; Conducting multiple tasks simultaneously; Conducting negotiations; Analyzing credit reports, income, tax returns, asset statements, property appraisals; Analyzing compliance with Authority, Investor, Insurer, State, and Federal guidelines; Preparing and conducting training sessions; Preparing reports; Speaking in public; Using a computer and software applications; Maintaining confidentiality; Processing loan applications; Making appropriate approval and denial decisions for loans; Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat; Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction. TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Associates Degree in real estate, finance, or related field and two years of experience as an Assistant Underwriter; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
