Role Purpose:
Under the direction of the Vice President - Patient Services, administers the managerial function of setting objectives, planning, staffing, and directing activities of the department. Consults with and advises of issues related to the operation of the department; and recommends changes in policies to carry out health center objectives more effectively. Ensures the efficient, economic, and quality performance of the department to support or provide quality health care services. Responsible for the department's overall delivery of proactive customer service. Provides and maintains effective communications with medical staff, the community, and all levels of supervision and staff.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Supervises nursing staff on shift and other department staff as needed. Acts as a resource for nursing and auxiliary staff; policy/procedures and provides guidance as needed. Monitors work flow to ensure adequate staffing to meet patient needs. Identifies, analyzes and resolves administrative problems by direct intervention or by notification of appropriate personnel.
  • Quality Skilled Nursing Care: Ensures nursing is practiced in accordance with professional values, moral principles and maintains confidentiality as appropriate. Ensures performance of nursing practices remains in line with policies, procedures, and standards. Performs regular rounds of all hospital areas to ensure safety and quality patient care. Collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary professional staff to provide physical and psychological support for patients, staff, and visitors. Acts as a role model to enhance the professional nursing image and acts as an advocate for patients and staff.
  • Communication/Documentation: Collaborates with doctors, specialist and administrative personnel to solve issues. Uses EPIC or other appropriate documentation for any patient care given. Fills out appropriate incident reports as needed. Keeps computer passwords confidential at all times. Does not share passwords with others and does not use other's passwords.
  • Fall Prevention: Responds promptly to alarms. Remains alert to fall risks for patients and takes action to reduce fall risk. Follows hospital policy for no passing zones .
  • End of Life Care: Ensures quality end of life care. Uses comfort cart to meet family needs. Checks that hygiene, comfort, and spiritual needs re met. Demonstrates compliance with post-mortem care procedures.
  • Safety: Complies with safety policies/procedures to ensure safe practices for patient, staff, self, and others. Uses good body mechanics while on duty. Uses and disposes of sharps according to safety standards. Reports safety incidents, concerns or hazards through online reporting system as indicated. Takes corrective action for safety issues. Initiates emergency, safety practices, and fire safety measures as necessary.
  • Infection Control: Complies with infection control standards during tour of duty including hand hygiene, appropriate use of personal protective equipment, and isolation precautions. Maintains patient in isolation when indicated, participates in mandatory vaccination programs, and Does not work when contagious.
  • Customer Service: Role models AEPC behavior. Promotes no passing zone to meet patient needs in a timely manner. Takes action to correct customer service issues immediately. Uses the fix it now supplies as needed.
  • Privacy/Confidentiality: Maintains privacy and confidentiality for patients at all times
Minimum Requirements:
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN)
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license granted by the State of Wisconsin
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification and Advanced Cardio Life Support (ACLS) Certification
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification obtained within 6 months of date of hire
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience
  • Efficiently and accurately enter data and use a computer for a variety of activities
Preferred Requirements:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Department Specific:
Ability to communicate professionally and effectively in verbal and written form with co-workers and residents. Able to manage tasks in a timely manner and meet timelines while producing quality, accurate work. Perform basic and advanced math including: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, statistics, decimals, and percentages.
