Job Details

The University of Wisconsin-River Falls (UWRF), a member of the University of Wisconsin System, is located on the eastern edge of the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area in scenic west central Wisconsin. Year-round arts, cultural, and recreational activities and events are easily accessible from River Falls. The 6,100 undergraduate and graduate students at UWRF pursue degrees in four colleges: Education and Professional Studies; Arts and Sciences; Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences; and Business and Economics.

Job Duties: Position is responsible for the repair of a wide range of mechanical equipment necessary for heating, air conditioning and ventilating in the campus buildings and also the repair of other mechanical building systems including commercial kitchen equipment. This position has the responsibility of working in all UW-River Falls buildings. A very thorough knowledge of pneumatic, electric and electronic systems is required as well as being able to assist in running the building automation system for saving energy.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
*Visual acuity necessary to read parts books and equipment manuals.
*Ability to read requisitions and receive information; ability to read English language sufficiently to read and understand construction documents (i.e., blueprints). Ability to read work orders, printed history pages and schedules from the energy Management System, hazardous substance warnings, installation and repair manuals, and equipment operating instructions.
*Ability to orally communicate effectively with others using the English language, in person or over the telephone, with or without the use of auxiliary aids, in order to convey information.
*Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with the public and other University employees.
*Analytical skills necessary to diagnose and correct mechanical failures in heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems.
*Sufficient manual dexterity with one hand to operate hand and power tools, manually complete paperwork such as recording items on work orders and receiving documents, and operate computer terminal for EMS.
*Must have sufficient physical flexibility to stoop, crawl under HVAC equipment (i.e., air handling units) and other low spaces in order to perform preventive maintenance tasks.
*Perform tasks requiring standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking significant distances between and within buildings on campus in order to attend to various maintenance tasks across campus.
*Ability to enter, exit, and perform duties in confined spaces in order to correct problems and maintain heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems.
*Ability to climb stairs, ladders and scaffolding, and work at heights above 30 feet in order to reach HVAC equipment.
*Ability to grasp, lift and/or carry, or otherwise move HVAC equipment or components (i.e., motors) weighing a maximum of 50 pounds.
*Must be physically able to lift your arms above your head in order to reach remote HVAC equipment installations.
*Ability to perform duties within extreme temperature ranges so as to do necessary outdoor maintenance in the summer and winter.
*Must have a valid driver's license which permits Wisconsin certification in order to drive University vehicles.
*Ability to work with and cooperate with supervisory staff at all levels in order to maintain a smoothly functioning work unit.
*Ability to learn and perform all essential job functions accurately and safely with minimal direct supervision.
*Ability to understand and apply information presented in training programs, conferences, and/or professional literature in order to keep abreast of changes in the job/do your job safely/etc.
*Basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction and multiplication, necessary to complete work orders.
*Must possess and maintain an applicable refrigeration license (must obtain license prior to the end of the six-month probationary period).
*Must have experience in mechanical, heating, refrigeration and kitchen equipment repair.
*Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment screen.
