Description
JOB GOAL: To assist in the instruction of students as assigned. ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS:
1. Demonstrate sensitivity to the individual needs of students.
2. Assist with student's accomplishment of specific academic tasks.
3. Assist with management of student's behaviors through consistent enforcement of established classroom/school rules.
4. Implement classroom carry-over activities as prescribed through the direct supervisor.
5. Supervise and assist students, as needed, in other school environments such as classrooms, gym, lunchroom, playground, washroom, field trips, etc.
6. Provide first aid, if necessary.
7. Record student's academic and/or behavioral progress.
8. Participate in conferences and meetings as assigned.
9. Prepare learning materials and bulletin board displays.
10. Provide routine room maintenance (e.g. put away materials, organize learning areas, etc.).
11. Maintain student confidentiality.
12. Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with all stakeholders, through oral, written, and technological means.
13. Attend work regularly.
14. Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This work regularly requires sitting, standing, walking, speaking, hearing and occasionally requires pushing, pulling, lifting, and operating machines; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, and observing general surroundings and activities; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. school office/ classroom/passageways). REPORTS TO: Building Principal
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Have obtained an Associate Degree (or higher), or Have at least 2 years of post-secondary education that is equivalent to at least 48 semester hours from an accredited higher education institution, or Have met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics (or, as appropriate, reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness) by taking and passing one of the required assessments.
2. Experience working with students in varying capacities.
3. Basic Computer Skills.
