POSITION:   NDSCS Police Officer (Pos # 00011392)

LOCATION:  NDSCS Wahpeton campus

TYPE OF APPOINTMENT:  This is a full time, twelve month, benefited position

BACKGROUND CHECK:  NDSCS requires a successful background check for the selected candidate prior to an official offer of the position.

JOB SUMMARY:   Performs licensed law enforcement duties as an armed police officer enforcing the constitution of the United States, the laws of North Dakota, the municipal ordinances of the City of Wahpeton, and the rules and regulations of NDSCS.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

• Must support the mission, vision and values of NDSCS
• Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice/equivelancy or related field or three years of law enforcement experience
• ND Peace Officer License or eligible to be licensed at time of hire
• Valid Driver’s License with no more than three moving violations in the past two years
• Knowledge of the general nature and existence of rules, procedures and methods related to duties which comprise the work associated with law enforcement
• Proficient in the use of computers and software applications
• Strong interpersonal/oral/written communication skills
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, will include rotating shifts.
• Must have left previous law enforcement employment in good standing.

 
Post Offer/Pre-hire: You must pass a physical exam including vision and hearing screenings, satisfactorily complete a psychological assessment, and must be able to satisfactorily demonstrate your abilities to meet minimum qualifications.
 
After Hire: Must pass a qualifying shooting course per department standards as a condition of continued employment.
 
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:

• Bachelor’s degree
• Two or more years of law enforcement experience
• Successful law enforcement experience in a higher education environment
• Demonstrated knowledge of the Clery Act, Title IX and the Violation Against Women’s Act (VAWA)

VETERAN’S PREFERENCE: North Dakota Veterans claiming preference must submit all proof of eligibility by the screening date. Proof of eligibility includes a DD-214 and if claiming disabled status, a current letter of disability that is less than one year old from the Veteran’s Administration.
