JOB SUMMARY

Performs quality diagnostic polysomnographic (PSG), as well as titration, multiple sleep latency (MSLT), and Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT) will be performed. Records and provides relevant and accurate data to physicians for diagnostic use in the treatment of patients with sleep/wake disorders.
Educates patients with prescribed therapies. May also follow-up with patients when applicable. May provide education to patients for sleep testing when necessary. Calls in for technical troubleshooting as necessary. Responsible for performing either Sleep Study Procedures or Neurological Testing for all patient populations. Understands the testing equipment in detail, including its structure, function, indications for use, physiological effect upon the patient, and basic maintenance/troubleshooting procedures. Ability to apply principles of anatomy and physiology, normal and abnormal, related to procedure performed. Monitors and documents appropriately in medical record per facility guidelines. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) standards and accreditation. Possesses a thorough knowledge and understanding of the disease and pathological conditions encountered. Ability to work with all age groups and those with growth and developmental needs of unique client populations. Performs other department specific duties as required. Dependent on facility and department needs, participate in various types of scoring or tabulation of studies. Oversees students and/or staff are providing patient care, treatment, and/or services as part of their training when necessary.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Uses software tools and technologies for document management. Summarize technical data to assist physicians to diagnose brain, sleep, or nervous system disorders. Submit reports to physicians summarizing test results. Makes sure to know organization-wide policy, procedures, and internal experts on confidentiality. Follows pre-established patient safety guidelines. Follows hospital procedures to educate patients and caregivers on conditions and treatments. Explain testing procedures to patients, answering questions or reassuring patients as needed. Conduct tests or studies such as electroencephalography (EEG), polysomnography (PSG), nerve conduction studies (NCS), electromyography (EMG), and intraoperative monitoring (IOM). Cites ways to assess symptoms, identify respiratory problems and plan appropriate treatment methods. Calibrate, troubleshoot, or repair equipment and correct malfunctions as needed. Assists in documentation of medical histories, symptoms, and vital signs for assigned patients.

DEPARTMENT DETAILS

This position is full time 72 hours a pay period working 12 hour rotating day and night shifts. One weekend a month is required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Degree in Electroneurodiagnostic Technology program, Respiratory Technology program, or other Medical specialty preferred.
Minimum of two years of related work experience in Sleep Disorders field preferred.
Registration by the Board of Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) required as a Polysomnographic Technologist in state(s) of practice and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges as required by this position per state. Will also consider registration from American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). Continuing education units (CEU) mandatory to maintain licensure. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within 60 days of employment.
