Position Description:
North Dakota State University invites applications for a Lecturer or Assistant Professor of Practice in Animal Sciences. This is a 9-month, non-tenure track, lecturer or Assistant Professor of Practice position in the Department of Animal Sciences, an academic unit of the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources. The primary responsibilities of the successful candidate will be to teach undergraduate courses and coach/coordinate the livestock judging team.

Teaching Responsibilities:
1) Coordinate livestock judging programs by serving as the coach or mentoring graduate student coaches when appropriate
2) Develop and teach innovative courses related to livestock evaluation and production
3) Teach additional courses consistent with departmental needs and the successful applicant's expertise
4) Advise undergraduate students and student organizations
5) Provide leadership for departmental undergraduate recruiting efforts

Service Responsibilities:
1) Enhance the department's outreach mission by expanding youth engagement and providing recruiting opportunities for the department
2) Participate in professional development opportunities that enhance personal and professional effectiveness related to the duties of the position
3) Develop appropriate professional relationships with livestock producers, livestock organizations and commodity groups in the state and region

Minimum Qualifications:
1) Graduate degree in Animal Science or related field. Individuals working towards a graduate degree may be considered, but the degree must be obtained by start of employment. Successful candidates with a MS or DVM may be hired at the rank of Lecturer. Successful candidates with a completed PhD may be hired at the rank of Assistant Professor of Practice.
2) Livestock judging experience
3) Experience teaching animal science related coursework
4) Demonstrated commitment to enhancing student success through innovative courses in livestock production and evaluation
5) Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work in a diverse team atmosphere
6) Valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one

Preferred Qualifications:
1) Livestock judging coaching experience
2) Previous experience competing on an intercollegiate livestock judging team
3) Knowledge and experience in livestock management and animal husbandry
4) Demonstrated commitment to excellence in classroom instruction and capability to develop innovative, effective methods of teaching undergraduate courses
5) Ability to reach youth audiences through creative outreach efforts
