JOB SUMMARY

Aims to offer a sense of attentiveness and compassion in the midst of suffering and struggle. Provides spiritual and emotional support during illness, injury, crisis and/or emergency. Performs spiritual care. Demonstrates pastoral care skills. Assesses patients’ spiritual resources and well-being and encourage the patient and/or family member to utilize his or her own spiritual and religious coping strategies.
Possesses empathy for challenges experienced by patients and families in the medical setting and comfortable with diverse populations of varying ages, cultures and beliefs. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships, serving as a member of the interdisciplinary team, collaborating with other members to develop and provide spiritual support to client and families. Functions effectively in trauma and crisis situations.
Follows the Association of Professional Chaplains Code of Professional Ethics. Effectively documents spiritual care visits in the electronic health record. Addresses the spiritual care referrals and consults in a timely manner. Follows departmental policies and procedures. Demonstrates critical thinking skills under adverse situations in order to respond appropriately to patients and families. Understands one's limits and seeks appropriate guidance and assistance when needed to ensure delivery of adequate care. Communicates appropriately and thoroughly with chaplain colleagues about patient care needs. Attends and participates in department meetings and gatherings. Depending on location, may be required to serve on call as assigned.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Explains the faiths of the world and humanism with reference to own religion's philosophies, experiences and practices. Assesses common risks and rewards of voicing or not voicing opinion. Uses language appropriate to audience. Works to maintain a greater sense of skill, connection, openness, and balance through mindfulness. Cites personal examples of persistence in the face of difficulties. Assesses and validates decision options and points and predicts their potential impact. Works cooperatively and capably with a wide variety of people. Recognizes changing demands and priorities; validates changes with management. Performs prayers, homiletics, sacraments and other religious ministries in various circumstances. Visits medically challenged individuals in hospitals, homes, and specialized care facilities; documents their symptoms. Cites commonly used techniques and methods for spiritual care services. Demonstrates receptivity to diversity. Inspires and motivates the faith of people while maintaining an awareness of sacred responsibilities.

DEPARTMENT DETAILS

This is a full-time opportunity working Monday-Friday, 8 hours day shift. Rotate on call every fifth week including the weekend. Prefer persons with experience/interest in working with pediatric patients and families as well as Labor and Delivery, Obstetrics or Gynecology.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors degree required. Masters degree or above preferred.
One unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) in an accredited CPE center required, two units of CPE preferred.
Will consider two years equivalent experience as a Chaplain, preferably in a medical or healthcare setting dependent on facility
needs and size.
One Unit = 400 hours, 300 clinical ministry, 100 group experience under supervision of certified supervisor of CPE program.
Ordained, licensed, or commissioned to function in a religious vocation by an appropriate religious authority required and obtains letter of endorsement or letter of good standing from their faith group.
