Research Technician

Position Description:
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at North Dakota State University ( NDSU ) seeks qualified applicants for a Research Specialist position. We are particularly looking for candidates who can operate effectively in a diverse community of students, staff, and faculty to share in our vision of excellence in engineering education, research and service to local and regional industries.

The preferred candidate will work on an industrially directed research project to develop NDSU /Company joint Intellectual Property from the concept stage through production. The products resulting from this project are novel cooling technologies for consumer, commercial, medical and military applications. The expected term for this position is approximately one year, but after this position is concluded, it is anticipated that the successful candidate would have the opportunity to join the company in a R&D or Production role.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Associates or higher degree in a technical field or 2 years experience in a research and development environment.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrate a willingness to work with students, staff and faculty throughout the college and university.
• Self-starter and be able to work independently to meet goals and deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in a manufacturing environment including familiarity with Design for Manufacture principles, manual and CNC tools, and other metal manufacturing techniques.
• Experience in plastic fabrication, specifically rotomolding or injection molding.
• Basic knowledge of electronic circuits and wiring schematics.
• Ability to work in a fast paced research and development environment
• Ability to collect and analyze data
• Ability to summarize data and write reports
• Ability to set up an experimental plans and organize the data collection for the work.

Special Conditions:
This position is a limited 12 month contract. However, it is anticipated that the successful candidate would have the opportunity to join the sponsoring company in a R&D or Production role.
