JOB SUMMARY

Safely transport patients to and from their inpatient beds to other areas and ancillary departments, and retrieve medical records, prescriptions and other clinical documentation for patients as requested. Provide decision support for patient transport services to ensure efficient work flow, and assist with scheduling and with covering shifts as required or requested. Required to remove and replace medical devices, and lift, or assisting in lifting patients to gurneys, wheelchairs or other devices to facilitate transport. Inspect and perform minor maintenance to transportation tools and devices. Document and request other maintenance as needed. Must comply with enterprise guidelines and policies of health, safety and security at all times, and become familiar with medical terms and certain pieces of medical equipment. May be required to change or transport linens, assist in transporting specimens, documents or patient possessions, and for discharge processing of inpatient rooms.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Clean equipment, such as wheelchairs, hospital beds, or portable medical equipment, documenting needed repairs or maintenance.;Follows safety measures to ensure proper use of equipment and supplies.;Performs basic file management tasks like open, close, name, save, print.;Recognizes and assesses cues or unstated intentions behind verbal and nonverbal communication.;Uses language appropriate to audience.;Demonstrates leadership qualities: intelligence, dominance, persistence, integrity, confidence.;Communicates well downward, upward, and outward.;Transport patients to treatment units, testing units, operating rooms, or other areas, using wheelchairs, stretchers, or moveable beds.;Coaches others on appropriate steps taken to ensure patient safety.;Carry messages or documents between departments.;Transport specimens, laboratory items, or pharmacy items, ensuring proper documentation and delivery to authorized personnel.;Transport portable medical equipment or medical supplies between rooms or departments.;Respond to emergency situations, such as emergency medical calls, security calls, or fire alarms.;

QUALIFICATIONS

Some post-secondary education, specific training or coursework or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) required.
Required to register with the North Dakota Department of Health as a nursing aide within four months of hire. Registered with the North Dakota Department of Health as a Certified Nursing Aide preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within six weeks of employment and must be maintained.
