Work Schedule:  Monday- Friday; 8am -4:30pm-May be the need for work outside of the normal schedule and travel.

The Compensation Analyst leads the annual compensation cycle, providing strategic guidance on the design, development and administration of compensation programs, salary structures, short and long term incentives to support recruiting and retaining the talent necessary to achieve UND’s Strategic Plan.  Maintains market competitive compensation programs and pay practices, analyzes, and compares the information by comparing market data and/or internal equity, and determines financial impact on the university.

Oversees the development of compensation plans for staff and faculty:

  • Oversees the job description process.Reviews job descriptions to identify classifications, NDUS broadbands, and appropriate pay levels/ranges.
  • Works closely with the area HR Managers in development of positions and organizational structure.
  • Ensures equity across the university with regard to assignment of pay range and quartiles for positions.
  • Work with supervisors on salary recommendations to ensure fairness and equity.
  • Manages the salary review request process.
  • Maintains market competitive compensation programs and pay practices by gathering information regarding current compensation practices.Analyzes the information by comparing market and internal equity.
  • Oversees and coordinates the development of new positions.Ensures that titles are appropriate and in line with the duties of the position. Uses appropriate benchmarks to assign salary values.
  • Interprets and implements Human Resources policies and procedures regarding salary administration.
  • Applies compensation strategies to the Performance Management/Annual Evaluation process when applicable.
  • Advises leadership and staff on compensation philosophy and practices including researching best practices and innovative pay models.
  • Provides analysis and guidance for pay decisions, policy and guideline interpretation and job evaluations.
  • Reviews merit, market adjustment and equity compensation requests and ensures performance evaluations are processed correctly and that all pay increases are accurately applied in the HRIS system.

Annual Market Surveys and Compensation Data Analysis:

  • Oversees, manages and participates in the annual market survey process.
  • Works with several outside companies including CUPA to complete and evaluate university positions against comparable market data.
  • Analyzes and manages the annual market process for all divisions. Establishes appropriate ranges and quartiles for each job band, family, job code, position.
  • Assists the AVP of HR/Payroll in communicating annual market data to the area vice presidents and the president.
  • Conduct trend analysis with comparable peers. 

Reporting-IPEDs, EEO, Queries, Policy Notification:
 

  • Coordinate the IPEDS report with EOE and University Analytics and Planning.
  • Manages the Annual Notification of Policies process.
  • Creates a variety of reports and queries for internal and external customers.Compiles and analyzes data to prepare information for studies/surveys, regulatory compliance reports, auditors, and other special requests.


Human Resources Processes/Committees/Staff Supervision:
 

  • Serve on committees or working groups as assigned regarding HR related functions as a member of the UND HR department.
  • Attends conferences and workshops to continue professional growth and development.
  • Stays apprised of federal, state and local compensation laws and regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Assists other departments/divisions with investigations, Title IX, etc. as assigned.
  • Serves as a representative of the Staff Advisory Committee (SAC). Serve on various working groups attached to SAC.
  • May supervise one full time staff member.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to develop and maintain strong business relationships and ability to collaborate with all levels of university leadership, staff and faculty by building trust and credibility.
  • Must have the ability to work independently or with a team and manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Must be highly detail oriented and have excellent critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.

Minimum Requirements:
 

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 3 years of professional experience in the analysis, design and/or administration of compensation programs, position development, organizational development, etc.
  • Experience completing and analyzing market surveys
  • Experience and expertise with federal, state and local employment laws
  • Experience working with a large enterprise HRMS system.(Oracle, Workday, SABA, SAP, etc.)
  • Excellent skills and experience working with Microsoft Word, Outlook.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel software.
  • Experience supervisor full time staff.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Successful Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications:
 

  • Experience working in Human Resources in higher education
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP Certification
  • Experience working with a Compensation specific software. i.e. Payscale, CompView, etc.
