Position Overview
Apply practical knowledge of state-of-the-art electronic devices and first-hand experience designing electronic circuits or software, as assigned, to any of the Applications Engineering department functions including Technical Support, Tech Content, Voice of the Engineer, and more. This consists of answering technical questions, writing online technical content, or more that requires general technical competence.
Responsibilities
Must be able to...
- Perform all Associate Electronics Technician tasks|responsibilities at 'mastery' level; demonstrating expertise in product management topics & processes at Digi-Key. The work itself may not change, but level of oversight decreases.
- Provide support to Digi-Key customer base via phone, webchat, online content, and email
- Demonstrate technical competence/prowess in electronics technology as measured by ability to answer general technical questions of the following nature: part number ambiguities, associated tool compatibility, general suitability for use questions, suppliers we carry, part categorization, cross references, web site navigation, and more from all sources, mediums, and tools
- Maintain ethical integrity when answering questions such as notifying the customer when speculating on an answer
- Document technical support interactions per department standards
- Effectively interact with people, including management to cultivate goodwill from peers, customers, and suppliers
- Offer solutions to customers without help from others
- Respond professionally to technical inquiries in verbal and written formats
Other Typical Tasks May also Include:
- Specializing in a technology, a supplier, or department function
- Assisting internal Application Engineers in the design of electronic & electrical hardware, firmware, software, and mechanical components
- Offering solutions to customers without help from others
- Reporting progress against goals
- Trouble shoot and test electronic and electrical equipment
- May take on additional responsibilities from Apps Engrg management
- May participate on cross-functional working teams or tasks forces
- May participate in customer and supplier conference calls
- May test system updates and applications
- May participate in the creation of training & documentation of processes as well as the facilitation of training
- May travel - internationally and|or domestically - as needed

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Minimum/Essential Qualifications:
- Associate's degree or higher
- Works well in cross functional teams
- Demonstrable knowledge and thorough understanding of electronic assemblies, construction, and testing techniques
- Hands-on troubleshooting skills
- Able to use EDA and CAD and lab tools
- Able to work independently or collaboratively and maintain a positive attitude
- Generally, spend the workday sitting at a workstation and operating computer devices, such as, but not limited to keyboard, mouse and screen
- Generally, spend the workday performing repetitive motions that involve or affect the hands, head, and other parts of your body
- Must be able to perform the following behavioral competencies; analytical capacity, attention to detail, communication, customer/client focus, ethical conduct, initiative, manages execution, personal effectiveness/credibility, positive attitude, problem solving, professionalism, project management, thoroughness, time management
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in engineering technology
- Exposure to the electronics distribution industry
- Completion of various DKU courses - Ex. Traveling for Digi-Key, How to Conduct Dinner with a Supplier, Business Etiquette
