POSITION INFORMATION
Under the direct supervision of the Service Manager, the Service Technician is responsible for performing diesel automotive, industrial and agricultural repair and maintenance work as assigned in accordance with dealer and factory standards. They will also oversee the work of any apprentice that may be assigned to the technician.

BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform general job qualifications as outlined in the technician pay sheets based on the technician skill level
  • Receive repair orders from shop foreman and/or service advisor and take to stall area
  • Perform work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards
  • Diagnose cause of any malfunction and perform repair
  • Communicate with parts department to obtain needed parts
  • Save and tag parts if the job is under warranty or if requested by the customer
  • Examine the vehicle to determine if additional safety or service work is required
  • Advise Service Advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the time promised
  • Document work performed legibly and accurately on hard card
  • Road-test vehicles when required or refer to the test technician, while be conscious of keeping the customer's vehicle clean. Ensure that customer's trucks are kept clean
  • Supervise work of any apprentice technicians as assigned. Attend factory-sponsored training classes.
  • Keep abreast of factory technical bulletins
  • Keep shop area neat and clean and be able to account for all dealership-owned tools at all times
  • Understand and follow federal, state and local regulations, such as those governing the disposal of hazardous wastes. Road-test vehicles to quality-check work performed
  • Follow federal, state and dealership safety standards
Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school degree or the equivalent
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information
  • Previous diesel or automotive experience preferred.
  • General mechanical skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot and or repair light-mid range of trucks, industrial and agricultural engines
  • Possess diagnostic skills using electronic scan tools
  • Be able to learn or know turbos, fuel injection and injectors repair and testing
  • To operate sophisticated test equipment
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record
  • Manual dexterity
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • This is a physically demanding position. Will stand eight or so hours per shift. Will lift parts weighing in excess of 70 pounds several times during each shift and use hoist and test equipment as needed. They will stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, and feel. They will use hand and power tools. Will be exposed to noise, vibration, dust, exhaust fumes and other hazardous and non-hazardous materials. Road-testing of vehicles may be required. The technician will be required to wear a dealership uniform when working at all times.
