JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing.
Follows standard operating procedures and ensures laboratory safety, quality and regulatory requirements are met. Serves as a laboratory resource to other health care personnel and collaborates with other departments across the enterprise. Demonstrates critical and independent judgment in decision-making and problem-solving. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Works with quality assurance methods, tools and techniques. Understands the importance of documenting patient health information. Seeks opportunities to help others learn as teacher, coach, and mentor. Promotes organizational learning through knowledge management, training and development, and sharing key experiences. Presents a professional image, especially when dealing with customers. Identifies available resources and support systems for troubleshooting. Displays strong personal commitment to organizational success, inspiring others to commit to shared goals. Collects medical specimens with strict adherence to established procedures and test requisitions. Adheres to relevant policies and ethics for clinical laboratory testing. Adheres to established internal standards and procedures abstracted from Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

DEPARTMENT DETAILS

The Mandan North Lab services 5 physicians in our family practice clinic, an acute care hospital that shares a building with our lab, and two large continuing care centers in Mandan. This lab performs testing including hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, PCR testing, and rapid microbiology tests. This is a full-time, 72 hour every two week position working the day shift. Every 3rd weekend as well as a holiday and call rotation is included.

QUALIFICATIONS

MLT: Associates degree in Laboratory Science
required. Possess a national certification for Medical Laboratory Technician
(MLT) or Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) through an approved Health and
Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology
(ASCP); or be registry eligible. Registry eligible candidates must successfully
complete the Board of Registry examination within 12 months of employment. If
working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed or have a provisional license,
by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice. Maintain continuing education
credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and
certifications. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

MLS: Bachelor’s degree in laboratory or
biological sciences required. Possess a national certification for Medical
Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS)
agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or be registry
eligible. Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) also acceptable.
Registry eligible candidates must successfully complete the Board of Registry
examination within 12 months of employment. If working in North Dakota (ND),
must be licensed by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice. Maintain
continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for
license and certifications. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS)
certification.
