Job Summary
The Cancer Center Associate receives and directs patients, visitors and professionals. This position is responsible for various office tasks including routing calls and messages, scheduling appointments and procedures, maintaining physician calendars, and ordering supplies. This position performs patient registration and admission/discharge procedures.
Essential Job Functions
Answers telephone and routes calls promptly and courteously. Opens, sorts and processes mail for department and distributes faxes. Orders department supply items as needed.
Receives and directs all patients, visitors and professionals ensuring that their needs are met in a timely manner and that priority situations are referred to appropriate staff.
Completes Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) questions in compliance with Medicare regulations and works lists/queues as appropriate.
Collects payments and maintains and balances cash drawer or directs patients to appropriate area regarding payment for services.
Performs patient registration and scheduling for procedures at check out. Completes insurance verification by looking up current insurance and copay information.
Coordinates and maintains physicians' calendars. Schedules appointments, procedures, chemotherapy, transfusions, and tests. Cancels appointments as needed, assuring that communication is provided to the appropriate individuals.
Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
