Position Details

Status: Part-time/Temporary/Seasonal (PTS) position, non-exempt

Salary: Starts at $14.00 to $16.00 per hour

Hours: 2:00pm - 5:00pm; October, 2019 - May, 2020

Location: Eden Prairie Community Center

Reporting Relationship: Reports to Senior Recreation Supervisor - Youth Development

Recreation Division

The Recreation Services Division has the responsibility for managing all recreation facilities and providing a variety of affordable recreation programs and services for all age groups and people of all abilities. The staff in this division are responsible for the management of facilities such as the Community Center, the Senior Center, and the Outdoor Center, as well as all other City park buildings and recreation facilities such as swimming beaches, sledding hill, amphitheater and facilities on school property that are operated in partnership with the School District such as the Oak Point Pool and tennis courts at CMS.

Position Responsibilities

The Adaptive Recreation Coordinator assists the Senior Recreation Supervisor with planning programs for individuals with disabilities, guides program staff, and facilitates the implementation of programs. The Adaptive Recreation Coordinator assume the role as the main contact for parents/guardians, staff, or volunteers to communicate with prior to and/or during programs. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are:

  1. Assists with creating and developing programs for individuals with disabilities that enhance social, physical, and emotional skills.
  2. Facilitates program implementation, adapts activities, manages behaviors, and provides personal cares as needed.
  3. Communicates with parents/guardians, staff, and Recreation Supervisor about program and participant's experience.
  4. Completes other duties as assigned by Recreation Supervisor.

While these areas are the primary focus of the position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.

Position Requirements

Education: High school diploma, Degree in Education, Recreation, Child Development or related field preferred

Work Experience: Must be at least 18 years of age; minimum of two years experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
