Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification:  $52,000/Annual, Full-Time, benefited, exempt. 
Benefits: Includes single or family health care coverage (premiums paid for by the university), basic life insurance, EAP, retirement plan, tuition waiver, annual and sick leave.  Optional benefits available: supplemental life, dental, vision,  flexible spending account, supplemental retirement plans. 
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30pm

The mission of the College of Nursing and Professional Disciplines (CNPD) is to prepare future leaders, to advance human well-being and improve quality of life for diverse populations, with an emphasis on rural communities in North Dakota, the region and beyond, through the provision of high-quality innovative inter-professional education, research and service. The CNPD is comprised of three departments: Nursing, Nutrition & Dietetics and Social Work.
 
The Bio-Statistics Core mission is to excel in biostatistics and bioinformatics education/training; to conduct high-quality methodological and collaborative biostatistics/bioinformatics research; and to provide an essential component of the scientific basis for quantitative biomedical research throughout the State of North and South Dakota by providing a variety of research-related services including manuscript preparation, proposal development, grant review, ethics review, help in project management, contract negotiation, award administration, post grant support, bio-statistical support, financial management and reporting.
This position will collaborate with oncologists, clinicians including medical doctors and nurses, translational scientists, biostatisticians, engineers and other health care professionals. The primary purpose of this position is to carry out data preparation responsibilities related to cancer clinical trials, develop skilled statistical programs, perform statistical analysis associated with clinical data and prepare written reports to investigators. In addition, this position prepares statistical considerations for basic trial designs or grants and performs bio-statistical reviews of protocols.

Responsibilities:

Clinical Data Preparation

  • Determine methods of statistical analysis and apply techniques.
  • Participate in/advise on the design of quantitative and qualitative research projects and clinical trials, analyze data, develop conclusions, write parts of reports and statistical analysis plans for clinical trials, prepare presentations of relevant findings and conclusions.
  • Perform data extraction from databases, if required, through programming and report on progress of programs, studies, and/or projects.
  • Perform simple and sophisticated data analysis using statistical software applications to generate standard and customized reports and graphs.
  • Ability to perform sample size calculation and power analysis.
  • Summarize analytical methods and present results as tables, charts or graphs.
  • Manage data from high-throughput next-generation sequencing.
  • Provide didactic lectures to medical residents on basic statistics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Required Competencies:
 

  • Strong written communication skills including the ability to write clear, structured statistical assessments in health-related areas for grant proposals, manuscripts, presentations and reports
  • Effective verbal presentation skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective professional work relationships with faculty and staff in various disciplines
  • Ability to organize effectively to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.

Minimum Requirements:
 

  • Master's degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, or related quantitative field and one year related experience
  • Solid experience with statistics, and experience with mainframe and/or PC databases, document processing such as Microsoft Office Suite, and statistical software such as, SAS, SPSS, R, S-Plus and STATA.
  • Successful completion of criminal history background check.

Preferred Qualifications:
 

  • Experience in cancer clinical trials and/or other cancer-related studies including study design and data analysis.
  • Experience in analysis of high-dimensional data, such as gene expression and SNP data to identify reproducible genetic markers.
